Bike
Comments: They advertise as flat and fast, but this is definately NOT flat. Fast maybe, but only because all of the Atl bike shops have their LBS teams all together in one pack. The main peleton was several hundred riders strong, and they were able to maintain mid-20 mph up and down the hills. For me, I used the event as a final tune-up for Ironman Louisville later in the month. I nailed my nutrition plan by staying a little hungry and eating nothing from the rest stops. Gels and sport beans, with Gatorade and cold water did the trick. What would you do differently?: Can't think of much. We rode as well as possible, nailed the nutrition, and finished tired but not 100% spent. Post race
Warm down: Preping for Ironman, I should have added a little T-2 run, but my shoes were in the car parked in a different lot, so I just ate the great post-ride food and called it a day. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills, and maybe went out a bit too fast in the first 50 miles. Climbed some of the hills too fast, too hard, draining the legs a little too much too soon. Event comments: Atlanta area's best organized ride. Only complaint was that my registration bag was labled for a Large t-shirt, but they threw in a Medium. Too bad, because it was a really nice tech shirt. The wife now has it. Arrive early, fueled and ready for a long day in the saddle.
Parking is an issue, so the earlier you arrive, the better.
I arrived more than an hour early and was able to park within a half-mile of the registration.
None needed.
