Swim
Comments: Was worried about the swim a bit, new suit 'n all. My pace was about what it is in the pool. My previously injured calf tightened up but only for 5min fortuantely. Bumped into a few people, no big deal, really enjoyed the swim! (my suit was great, go DeSoto! no hot-spots!) Oh, as I'm exiting the water a guy corraled up for the start of his swim yells out to borrow my goggles 'cause he's w/out for some reason. I figure, if that was me, I would hope someone would be so kind so I hand 'em off and give him my bib # and when I'm done, there they are hanging on my bike [good deeds = good karma me thinks :] What would you do differently?: (recurring theme initiated here) Actually train consistently for these distances :] Transition 1
Comments: Had to go up stairs from water and run over to transition, I wasn't pressured, it's nice doing an event w/out the 'racing' stress ~ Bike
Comments: Hilly course, killed my butt & leg muscles! My quads cramped up so bad by the last mile, I couldn't even pedal! (sodium issue? thank goodness that was downhill!). But I didn't stop and was glad to have made it through! What would you do differently?: Hmmm.. train to handle this distance and hills? (and work on nutrition!) Transition 2
Comments: My locked up quads had me wondering if I could even walk for the run. So I was slow in transition, couldn't bend down to pick stuff up, too funny. What would you do differently?: Not be cramped and move faster :] Run
Comments: I could barely walk the 1st mile, they had Heed on the course and I took in some of that hoping that my cramps were electrolyte based & I might mitigate them. At the turn around point I was much better and could get some running in on the way back. What would you do differently?: Learn to run 6+ miles before trying to do it after a swim & bike! :] Post race
Warm down: Walk around a bit, lay on the ground, drink stuff, slight streching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Let's see.. lack of training and knowledge of nutrition needs during exercising at that timeframe/distance. Event comments: Could have used even just one aid station on the bike. Saw some folks w/ bike issues, too bad there was no traveling repair vehicle (can't have it all of course). I made it! Actually w/ out a race pace effort it shouldn't have been tough to complete but the cramps almost did me in and that became the real challenge. I had a good time reaching my goal! I wasn't DFL overall, in my AG or of men, but I was one of the heaviest, therefore, I didn't do too bad in my book :] Last updated: 2009-01-12 12:00 AM

Uhh.. put stuff together, bathroom break, quick ride to make sure bike works, hokey pokey, etc..
Not ready for this race, pulled calf muscle almost 2 months ago and then slacked on training as well. Never have ridden 25miles before (nevermind including some decent Finger Lake Mtn hills) nor have I run more than 4miles ever. At a svelt 270lbs like I needed some extra challenges for my 1st Oly (-ha!) but I was givin' it a go anyway!
Barely got a 1min swim in.
