Swim
Comments: I am happy with my first competitive open water swim. Although I was slow, I was comfortable in the water and now I'm confident that I'll be good to go in future events. What would you do differently?: I need more time in the pool training. I felt comfortable in the water, but I need more work on my stroke, especially with my weak arm (right arm). I felt like my pull was solid with my left, but the right arm was definitely lacking. Based on placement within AG, I could move up the list quite a bit with an improved swim time. Transition 1
Comments: Horrible Transition! The strippers helped us get out of the suits and that portion went very well. Once I got to my bike though, it was a mess. My Garmin wasn't set up for multisport, so I played with that for 45 seconds or so. After that I couldn't get my shoes on and it was super slow. But I survived, so I'm not complaining. What would you do differently?: Be better prepared and come up with a better routine. I'll go with shoes clipped in from now on as well. I typically do that in my rides, but I was nervous for first event. Bike
Comments: Great race for me. I felt very comfortable and passed a lot of people. A couple of people passed me but I got them back except for one guy who passed me, got a flat and passed me again. But he was hauling. My ride back in was faster than the ride out as well, so I was happy about that. I was at 19.7 avg on the way out and finished at a 21 avg so my pace on the way back was around 22.3 or so. What would you do differently?: I pushed it a little harder than I should have on the bike and it hurt me in the run. Next time I'll hold back a little on the bike to make sure I have some solid legs. Transition 2
Comments: Much more happy with this transition. It took a second to get socks on, but that was the only delay. I put Yanks on my shoes and they worked great! What would you do differently?: No changes Run
Comments: I went out way too fast on the run and that, coupled with pushing too hard on the bike, left me pretty drained. On top of that, I had some nutrition problems that gave me a terrible sideache for about 1.5 miles. I had experimented with a couple of different things I don't normally use, which wasn't a good idea. My first two miles were quick followed by 3 slower miles and then a strong finish for the last 1.5 miles. I was happy with my overall pace, but I would have much rather ran negative splits as I typically do in a race. What would you do differently?: Hold back early on so I have more juice at the finish. Don't experiment with nutrition race day. Post race
Warm down: Water and a popsicle What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need more training, especially in the pool Event comments: Great first race! I will definitely be back next year... Great job keith! Last updated: 2009-01-14 12:00 AM

Typical pre-race. Got up early enough to have some coffee and gave myself plenty of time so I wasn't scrambling. English Muffin and Banana for breakfast.
Planned on doing a light jog for 15 minutes or so, but I ended up running back to the car to get CO2 for the bike. So it was more of a sprint than a light jog... But sufficiently warmed me up.
