Swim
Comments: This was my first triathlon so not knowing what to expect at the swim start was bad. The first buoy was so close that there was mas confusion if you couldn't sprint. I started on the very outside of the wave which would have put me on the very outside of the buoy. While I had relatively clear water, I probably swam an extra 25-50 meters total rounding the buoy. Actually came out in 9th place in my wave. Transition 1
Comments: Due to the run, I had my cap/goggles off already. The water was warm so no wetsuit. I pulled out of T1 and couldn't clip in. I forgot to take my cleat covers off before the race started. I was already moving and on the bike so I was able to reach down, take them off, and toss them into a nearby driveway before heading up the small hill right off the transition area. What would you do differently?: Remember to take my cleat covers off. Not wear socks. Maybe purchase Tri specific bike shoes. Bike
Comments: I had no legs on the bike. Also, my aerobars came loose and were almost hitting my front wheel. What would you do differently?: Make sure the aerobars were tight Transition 2
Comments: We were heading down a hill into the transition area, so it made it tricky to get out of my shoes. Run
Comments: What can I say... I'm a turtle... but I survived! Post race
Warm down: Walked around chatted with wife, family, and friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike crash I had a month before. I couldn't train because I busted my ribs pretty bad. Didn't decide on doing the race until two days before. For not doing any swim and run training I did fairly well. I was happy completing it as my first triathlon Event comments: Had a good time doing this YMCA run tri as my first. Expectations were low and was just out to have a good time.
