Swim
Comments: The temperature of the water was hot. It was suppose to be 70 degrees although felt a lot hotter. When I jumped in, there were a lot of people in the pool. It was difficult to get past at times when swimmers were in the middle of the lane. I was also getting tired so I don't think I was as aggressive at getting past some people. What would you do differently?: I need to work on building more endurance with freestyle stroke. Once I got tired, I reverted back to breast stroke and lost some time. Working on doing the entire swim in freestyle will help improve time. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Overall, I was pretty happy with my bike. I am still really not comfortable with my cornering and turns and slowed down each time in the turns to compensate. Oh, and put my water bottle on the right way! :-( I put in on backwards and had to struggle with this throughout the bike leg. What would you do differently?: I really want to work on my overall technique. (cornering, turns, and increasing cadence). I also plan to switch at some point to clips instead of the cages I have now. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The run course was strange and we started in a ditch. One man got hurt pretty badly from a wire sticking out in the beginning of the course. My time overall was better than I normally do in training. I ran into a friend that I haven't seen since high school and we ran together. It seemed to help having someone to run with to keep pace. I also tried to use people in front of me as goals to catch up to which seemed to help. What would you do differently?: I want to keep working on the running. I don't like running so this is an area of weakness for me. I will keep doing drills and working on increasing endurance and speed. Post race
Warm down: I was psyched after finishing my first triathlon. I walked around, changed out of my clothes, ate a bagel, pear, and 1/2 banana, and stayed for the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think each leg I could improve on. I don't think I gave the run everything because I was worried that I would fizzle before getting to the swim. Event comments: I have nothing to compare this race to as it was my first one. There were a few snags for sure but overall I think it went pretty well. Last updated: 2009-01-16 12:00 AM

I showered to wake up and then ate peanut butter toast and a glass of milk for breakfast. No coffee or vitamins this morning. I was really nervous. This was my first Tri.
I walked around and stretched out a litte. I would have done more but I was freezing!
