Swim
Comments: shallow, warm, little murky. No noticeable current. start waves only 5 min apart, so a lot of slower swimmers from the first wave start on the 2nd part of the first loop already. Actually quite crowded but not awful. What would you do differently?: more bodyglide Transition 1
Comments: 4th transition time in ag. not bad. Wetsuit strippers helped! What would you do differently?: not run past my bike Bike
Comments: marine layer during most of the first loop kept the temp down. Rolling-hilly course, but not horrible. Just the pavement in some sections, potholes not marked and leaf coverage made it very hard to spot the bad spots too. sketchy on some of the downhills What would you do differently?: not loose a bottle of GU drink on those darn potholes so I don't have to drink Gatorade Endurance so my stomach doesn't get upset :) Maybe I should have put a few spare bottles in my special bike needs bag Transition 2
Comments: smooth tran, changed in running gear with towel. What would you do differently?: sunscreen! Run
Comments: I took it easy and walked the uphills, since I knew I could do it under 12 hours. What would you do differently?: bring more salt tablets, the aid stations saved me just barely from cramping! Post race
Warm down: 20 min massage + chicken soup saved me from cramping! Pizza tasted good too. Took a long hot bath. What limited your ability to perform faster: not drinking enough on the bike Event comments: My first full, stoked with the time and lessons learned. Not blown away by course and organization, but ok overall. Last updated: 2009-01-17 12:00 AM
