Pre-race routine:

Nothing special here. Had an hour drive to the race. Tried to drink plenty of fluids.
Event warmup:

Unable to warm up too much due to transition closing at 7:20 and my wave not starting until 8:40. Was able to get in the water right before the wave to warm up in the wetsuit, which was nice to have.

Really pumped about this swim time. This was my first time swimming a mile in the open water and was able to swim with great rhythm and pace, especially for only swimming for a little over 5 months.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I think my swim time can only get better with more time training and I am very happy with this time.

Transition was huge, but all in all did good. I do have trouble running out of the water and gaining my balance.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster out of the water to my bike. Not sure how to work on this, but will look into it.

Excited with this ride as well. I have not even had a training ride of this length that I kept this pace. I did have some discomfort in my left hamstring in the beginning, but that got worked out. Should probably stretch a bit more to try to avoid the tightness.
What would you do differently?:

Not much more besides stretching better before the race.

Thought I could have been a bit quicker. Putting socks on did not go as smoothly as I have done before. Maybe think about training without socks? I did stop and stretch my calves in transition because of the tightness experienced on the bike.

Practice more with putting socks on quicker.

Had a good cadence on the first loop. Not as fast as I had hoped, but the heat did have a big effect on me. The second loop was more of a struggle and cadence slowed.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. I am worried about over training injuries to my shins from running. So this year I have accepted to be my base year for the run, and of course everything else.

Heat on the run.

Great race. Will be back next year. Wish the olympic distance was able to go off first to avoid the heat on the run as best as possible.
