Pre-race routine:

Alarm was set for 5:30am, I woke up at 5:00am, just stayed in bed until about 5:25am and then got up. Got dressed, had bowl of cereal, finished getting things together, grabbed a bottle of water and headed to the race. Arrived shortly after 6am, got chip and waited around until the start.
Event warmup:

None. Used the first couple of miles as my warm-up.

Comments:

Was looking to do better than a 1:45 time, race starts out going uphill so I didn't want to rush it, did first mile in just over 8:00, tried to relax and run my race, didn't want to worry about anyone else. Went by feel more than anything else, didn't want to push too hard up hill and didn't want to go too easy downhill.

Chip Time: 1:44:03
Male Rank: 166 / 747
What would you do differently?:

Lose about 10-20 lbs. Executed race as I had planned, tried to stay just under 8:00 per mile, started to pick up the pace a bit once I passed the 10 mile mark, though I didn't push extremely hard as the sun was starting to beat down, though temp was still fairly cool, things were starting to feel warm. I could feel the legs getting tired and tried to maintain or pick up the pace slightly.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, went to truck to get phone and call Ryan. Drank some water and a chocolate mile, ate a bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight and perhaps lack of speed work. Missing about 10 days of training about 3-4 weeks ago didn't help either.

Event comments:

This was my first Half Marathon and the largest race (in number of runners) that I have done. I didn't have any trouble with traffic, I was able to run my pace and not be in the way of anyone else nor have anyone in my way. I really enjoyed it and look forward to running the full marathon in Miami on January 31, 2010.
