Pre-race routine:

Ate a cliff bar about 3 hours before the race start and sipped on some water. My parents came and drove so I tried to sleep on the way there but my son kept yelling "pappa wake up!".
Got to the event and met aztipros (Matt) and listend to race meeting and then did a pre-race prayer with Matt.
Event warmup:

Just got in the water and swam a little to get some water into the suit. The water felt great. Perfect temp for racing.
Swim
  • 26m 40s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim went better than I had expected. I had a little trouble with one dude that kept running into me that slowed me down a little.
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

This wasn't the best transition but it was ok. I was slow getting the wetsuit on and putting my socks on.
What would you do differently?:

I might try biking without socks and see how that goes.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 41s
  • 25.26 miles
  • 16.01 mile/hr
Comments:

This was just crazy. It was super steep for the first 4 miles. I think half way into it my average speed was only 11mph. Coming back with all the down hills I got the average back up to 16mph. I have a new PR for my max speed: I hit 42.4mph. That was scary!
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

This was a good transition but it is hard to mess this one up.
Run
  • 51m 22s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

This hurt so bad. I have never walked in a race and I had to walk a few steps here and there on the hills. It was just crazy.
What would you do differently?:

Train on more hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Just hund out with my parents and son. Talked to Milton and Matt. Drank my recoverite.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training on hills.

Event comments:

This was a great race for training. It was way to hilly to try and go for a time. I was not a fan of having the awards later that day. Just give me my metal so I can go home.
