Swim
Comments: Once again I had a bit of 'anxiety' set in. At first i fought through it, but soon it ALMOST got the best of me. I started turning my head looking for a boat to hold on. I finally just convinced myself that "I can do this". I only had a couple more instances of backstroking-fairly brief, until the finish. I was NOT the last person out of the water. What would you do differently?: Although a bad swim by most standards, i was actually pretty pleased. Last year, at my first ever race, i was 50 min. in the water. Transition 1
Comments: I'm not spending too much time fretting about transistions. I'm just trying to be smooth and efficient, not forgetting anything. I'll work on the 'fancy' stuff after i've learned how to swim. :) What would you do differently?: My suit hangs up on my arms, so it's hard to get swim cap and goggles off and stowed into my suit sleeve right away. Bike
Comments: Right away i knew my legs were tired from working all night. They just felt dead-no 'pop' at all. After the first big climb, I started feeling better. Never really felt strong, but just able to gut it out and push. Only 'incident' I had was about 4 miles from finish, a road guard let ONE too many cars turn before me-this was a high speed, sweeping curve and I immediatly overtook the turning car and had to split traffic to avoid a crash. I STOMPED on the pedals to get clear and felt my right calf stab me. It would come back to haunt me later.I really wanted to break 20mph/av. I DIDN'T (19.9) Got to ride by friends house who were watching my 7 yr old daughter-managed to say 'hi' and toss an empty water bottle out. That was kinda cool. What would you do differently?: Not work the nite before. Little tweaks to bile position were spot-on, but my back got a wee bit tight from the slightly lower aero position. Transition 2
Comments: Missed my bike rack-started down the wrong row before i realised it. Had to turn completely around and go to next row. Didn't panic. Older fella watching the T2 area commented on my 'nice transition-you didn't panic" Tape I had put on my big toe had fallen off during the bike. I knew this was going to bother me-my shoes has a spot of excess glue directly above the R big toe. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to where I park my bike. :) Run
Comments: I've ran this course hundreds of times, so it was like being on a training run. My pace felt a bit forced because.....here it comes.....I WORKED THE NITE B4. Big toe blister came up-got pretty bloody towards the end, but what ya gonna do??? What would you do differently?: nothing, good run. Post race
Warm down: Warm down sucked-I had to hustle back to get Em from the sitter, so i couldn't hang around a chat. Ended up riding bike home, riding motorcycle back to race finish, hitch hike back to start area about 20 miles away. Then walk back to finish area later in the evening and ride moto back home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Working nite before, use batter tape on my toes. Event comments: I felt pretty good about everything. My placing is no great shakes, but it is what it is. I don't swim well and until i do, i'm always gonna be BOP. I can live with that. Last updated: 2009-01-22 12:00 AM

Worked 7PM til 7AM night before. Met teammates at T2 at 0730, arrived Start at 0805. Planned on having some coffee, but I didn't-and it showed.
Rode bike for just a couple minutes to stretch legs and find right gear. Jogged very little-I could tell my legs were dead. Got in water fairly early compared to everyone else. Water temp was PERFECT, felt good, did some strokes and some surges. Felt pretty good at this point.
