Run
Comments: The run went well. I was not happy loooking at the weather forecast the night before - steady rain with occasional thundershowers. It was pouring when I left the hotel, and by mile 2, I was completely soaked. I felt crappy for the first 4-5 miles - I think becasue of the rain and mentally I wasn't into it. I finally got into a rhythm and settled in til mile 20 or so. I knew a PR wasn't in the cards due to the weather, the hills, so I told myself to just give a solid, steady effort. I actually finished better than I expected. I definitely slowed, but never really caved in, and quit. My slowest mile was 8:56, and I kept moving, never walked more than 30 yards, and only at rest stops. I stopped at even mile water stops, even skipped mile 25. I was beat at the end, but pleased with the way I pushed through and finished. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This wasn't a peak race for me, so to finish with my 2nd fastest time, I was happy, especially given the weather. Post race
Warm down: walked back to the hotel, freezing my wet ass off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Rain and water soaked shoes by mile 2 Event comments: This was a really good race, very well organized, and the city of St. Louis was great. Everything was very smooth, the expo location was good with plenty of vendors, everything was well laid out. The race site and course were great, saw lots of very nice parts of town along with some of the tourist sites of St. Louis. There are a lot of great restaurants, and the city is very child-friendly with a couple of zoos and nice kids museum - the City Museum is a must. I would highly recommend this race. The only downside was the post race spread was a little lacking, but I think that there was more planned that was cancelled due to the weather. I would give this a 4.5/5 stars.
