Swim
Comments: So pissed I didn't seed myself higher. I knew with 23 people in front of me the chances of someone seeding themselves too high was extremely high. I'm sorry, but if you seed yourself in the top 50, and 200m into a 400m swim you're already doing the breast stroke, PLEASE wait at the end of the lane and let everyone pass you. I passed two people by about 150m in which was fine, but once I caught up to the next group there was someone two people ahead that was doing the breast stroke. There's no way I could pass 3 people so I just set it back in cruise control. Sucks because swimming is my dominant sport, and to have such a slow swim (for me) is INCREDIBLY frustrating. What would you do differently?: Seed myself at :45/100. Why not, everyone else apparently does. Transition 1
Comments: Not bad, but not great either. I decided against wearing my tri top in the water because of the drag, but it didn't matter anyway. The zipper popped off when I slipped it on, spent another :10 zipping it up. I think it may be time to invest in tri shoes and try out keeping them clipped in, running and jumping on the bike, I'm losing too much time in T1. What would you do differently?: Learn the flying leap for getting on the bike after T1. Bike
Comments: Shook off the bad swim and slow T1 and got myself going. I hammered throughout and was pleasantly surprised that I still averaged over 22mph considering a couple hills. What would you do differently?: Nothing, just continue to work on my bike. Transition 2
Comments: Smooth and easy. What would you do differently?: This goes back to T1, getting tri shoes so I can take my feet out, ride on top of the pedals and run into transition. Run
Comments: I've been battling a chest cold, so this is really the only place that it hurt. My HR felt higher than normal, I was cramping under my rib cage, but I tried my best to keep a strong cadence. Not my best performance, but considering my workouts over the last two weeks have been weak at best, it's all I could ask for. What would you do differently?: Rest more the night before. Post race
Warm down: Pizza! What limited your ability to perform faster: Chest cold, traveling 8 hours in the car the day before. Event comments: I know it's not Setup's fault, but the swim was a disaster. My wife watched the start of the race, and there was some guy in there seeded within the top 5 who was doing the sidestroke and breast stroke 100m in. I really wish there was some way that they could verify swim times rather than the honor system. Other than that, everything was great. Course was challenging enough for a sprint course, post-race activities and post-race food hit the spot. Last updated: 2009-01-22 12:00 AM
