Run
Comments: As the race started, I didn't like I had my bag on my bag. I took it off to rearrange (while running) and ripped my Ipod off, entangling it in the bags straps. I managed to shove the iPod in the bag and thro the bag back on. It was on me, but it was annoying. What would you do differently?: Go to the bathroom, ditch the bag, get a better night sleep... Post race
Warm down: crossed the finish line 11 seconds faster tham ;ast year. For the 3rd time this year, I set a PR for a distance (26.2 and 5K) and wasn't happy as I knew I can do better. For the marathon, I was getting ill. For the 5K, it was the weather. For this, it was a host of reasons that ultimtely all fall on me. Don't get me wrong - - I'm happy that I was able to go as fast as I did with all that was going on. Considering that, my performance was actually really good and I'm happy that I was able the eclipse last year's time. Had a blast at the kids' run. My wife said the course was empty so we started before the official race. It was great as there were no crowds and we could run. Saw ourselves running on the Jumbotron and got our picture with Sparky! First, my pregnant wife had a very restless slepp which awakened me frqeuntly. I awoke early and had my coffee, shake, and toast Grabbed my gear and headed out the door. This is where it all went wrong for me. My plan was to take the light rail down and avoid the parking mess. I got to the station as planned and the train was there. The vending machine would nor take my dollar and the train left. Damn, now I've got to wait another 15 minutes. No problem, I've got plenty of time.
Got my ticket and the next train came. About half way there, I felt like I was going to have to get off the train due to my dire need to find a restroom. I decided to wait it out and just get to the event. Train rolled into Sun Devil Stadium ay 6:35 for the 7am race. I dashed over for the porta-potties. Damn, the line is too long. Oh well, I think I can hold it. Let me look for the gear check tent. After a frantic search, while the National Anthem is being sung, I still can't fin any gear check place. I beg the Chick-Fil-A lady to let me stow my bag with her, but no dice. A quick glance at the watch shows 5 minutes until the gun goes off. I will now run with my bag and NOT having used the bathroom.
Have I mentioned my hammy was bothering me this week?
Well - - it's race time.
Got into the 7 minute/mile corral and continued to stretch it.
