Overall Rank = 237/523

Age Group Rank = 13/24
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 4:30am. Shower. Oatmeal and a banana and then off to the race. My wife joined me later as race was about to start. Took electrolyte supplements as well as a hammer gel to try and prevent cramping as had experienced previously when transitioning from bike to run Found Henry - friend who was doing his first triathlon. Found Vivianne - friend from work also doing the tri.
Event warmup:

swam for a few minutes. water and air were cool, so once I was in the lake I didnt want to come out
Swim
  • 08m 32s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim was ok for me. took me a while in the water to get psyched that i was actually competing. visibility was limited.
What would you do differently?:

intensity workouts to increase speed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

good transition for me. one of my quicker ones.
What would you do differently?:

wokr on the steps to a succesful transition. try to jump onto bike while running and get into shoes on the ride.
Bike
  • 32m 54s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.24 mile/hr
Comments:

bike segment ok for me. would have liked to bave kept a faster speed, but, felt winded a little sooner than had hoped, and I was concerned about too much speed vs potential cramping again on the run. also, with some stronger headwinds sometimes and frequent tight turns made maintaining a decent speed difficult
What would you do differently?:

keep pushing! Deal with the wind. Not concern myself with potential problems that may happen in the run segment
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

overall ok transition. need to work on speed. .
What would you do differently?:

maybe try getting my running gear and assembling while running out of transition
Run
  • 21m 24s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

had some very mild calf craming coming off the bike...but wore off as i got into the run. I think its from training and competing at two different intensitied vs hydration, electrolyte balance. otherwise, was still able to pull off a decent time for me at this stage
What would you do differently?:

intensity workouts on the run with some mroe transition workouts from the bike to the run.
Post race
Warm down:

finished. got some water. walked around. waited for henry to finish - he came in 2nd in his fat tire division...wow. was great. waited for vivianne. had a bagel and some oranges and relaxed

What limited your ability to perform faster:

intensity training. mental status - being psyched about the race. I was into it, but not as much as I had been in previous races...makes sucha big difference!!

Event comments:

overall another good race. there were so many participants this time it gort a little crowded on the roads. with the turns being so tight, it was tough to navigae well without fear of injuring someone else. i like the tradewinds series.
