Run
Comments: Felt great initial 21 miles, actually increased my pace to below 9 min and was catching the 4hr pace group. Thne I needed to slow a little between 21 and 22. Just before 23 miles I started to get quad pain and made it to 23 miles before I forced myself to walk 3min. First marathon and I was happy to run 23miles nonstop, farthest I've ever run and felt good except for the muscle pain. Ran and walked until mile 25, still with either quad or hamstring pain. I figure I was around 11:30/mile for that span with only 1-2 min of walking and then running until I felt I would cramp. I don't think the 'cramps' had anything to do with electrolytes, my muscles had just never worked like that nonstop for 4 hrs. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, someday I may do another marathon but I'll wait until 20 mile runs are easier. I only did one 20miler about 2-4 wks before the race and it nearly killed me so my race was actually a pleasant surprise. Post race
Warm down: Waited for my wife and then went back to the hotel. Made it over to the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the day. Only a blister on my little toe caused me to walk funny at times. However, getting on and off the rides was beginning to get challenging. Leg massage back at the room. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training for that distance. Event comments: Awesome race if you're a Disney fan. Very crowded so not a race for a PR. Great fan support, I actually cheered for my wife the day before, and a few humdred other runners, and had a blast. Next year we are running the 1/2 together with our camera and just having fun then hanging around to cheer on the marathoners on SUnday. Last updated: 2009-01-25 12:00 AM
