Pre-race routine:

Ninja and I did our normal thing of staying at the Ritz the night before. So pre-race routine was waking up, eating a LaraBar and banana and walking to race start.
Event warmup:

None. It was kinda chilly. We huddled in the bag drop tent until about 10 mins before the race which was about 5 mins too long.

Comments:

Sad to say but I was not mentally into this race. I'm really not sure why either. All I really wanted to do was to break 1:40 but I secretly thought I might have trouble breaking 1:45. I told my coach that this was a C race and because of that I didn't taper. Still today, I'm good with that decision as I think it will help me come Macon HIM and Augusta HIM (running hard on tired legs).

I tried to get to coral 1 but only made it as far as coral 3. Saw Lisa B. My plan was to go 7:45 for 5 miles, 7:25 for 5 miles and 7:05 for the last 3 (or whatever I had left). I think I can run this pace if I put the right priority on the race. Typically, negative splitting a race and using this pacing strategy produces great results for me (which it did once again).

1st mile was slow and had this been closer to 7:45, I might (might) have been able to go sub 1:40. Oh well. Otherwise pacing was right were I wanted it to be.

Dropped the hammer a mile early as it's flat in Piedmont Park and after that, you have a 2 mile climb to get to Marietta Street.

Saw Nora at mile 2 or 3 and GW at mile 5 or 6. Saw Rebbecca from swim at mile 9 I think.
Post race
Warm down:

Went for a 5 mile cool down run followed by 3 hours of stretching..... wait, who am I kidding. Went back to the hotel, showered and hung out to watch J.Corn finish her 1st mary.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Honestly, after reading Greg Cornelius' race report it is clear that some people have the drive and ability to haul ass in a 10k/1/2 mary and some, like me, don't. I just don't want to push myself running. When it comes to triathlon, I'm all over jumping on the pain train from start to finish but I'm just not all that crazy about running balls out from the gate. I'd much rather ease into a running race and my best performances tend to come from negative splits.

Was this a limiter? Could I have run faster? Who knows. I do like me a 1:40 on tired legs though so I can't complain.

Event comments:

A good race. I liked the course better the first year. Weather in GA in the spring is a little hit/miss but that is not the RD's fault. Year 1 was perfect. Year 2 was rainy and cold. Year 3 was better than year 2 but still a bit chilly.
