Total Time = 3h 06m 10s
Overall Rank = 538/884
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 25/39
Pre-race routine:

Had a good night sleep and was up on time. Stayed in a hotel near the race. Normal breakfast of banana and peanut butter sandwich.
Event warmup:

Minimal warm up. Just a hundred yards of easy swim prior to event start.
Swim
  • 27m 51s
  • 1367 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

26 of 39 in age group.
Lots of congestion on the swim...had trouble spacing out even in the straights between the bouys.
What would you do differently?:

Stay more to the outside of the course on straight legs between bouys.
Transition 1
  • 03m 54s
Comments:

Had a little trouble with wetsuit stuck on heels.
What would you do differently?:

More body glide on legs of suit.
Bike
  • 1h 24m 2s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.74 mile/hr
Comments:

33 of 39 in age group. Felt good on the bike and worked pretty hard and consistent. Slight headwind on the first 10 miles which slowed me a little.
What would you do differently?:

Need more interval training prior to race. Also, needed to take in more fluids early in the ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Good transition compared to age group.
Run
  • 1h 08m 28s
  • 7.4 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

29 of 39 age group
Let myself get flustered by mismarked course. Organizer screwed up and made it a 12k rather than 10k. Unable to keep up run pace for the additional mile.
What would you do differently?:

Not get frustrated. Find a mantra for motivation during adversity.
Post race
Warm down:

Did not stretch soon enough after completing the run. Very tight hamstrings.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Allowed myself to get frustrated on the run. After mile 4 still running AWAY from the finish got into my head.

Event comments:

Screwed up the run course and made it 7.4 miles instead of 6.2. Worst of all, they did not tell us ahead of time. After mile 6 marker we still had almost 1.5 miles to finish with no additional signs.

Not enough volunteers to support start of race. Started 30 minutes late and had few announcements.

Did not have the promised aid station on bike route at top of the big climb.
