Swim
Comments: The swim was pretty uneventful. My navigation was good, although my pace was a bit slower than I expected. What would you do differently?: Start closer to the front of the wave, I had to pass a number of swimmers at the start. Transition 1
Comments: In T1 I had trouble getting the suit off my heels, which normally happens. The legs on my suit go all the way down to my ankles and has calf zippers, but it's still a tight fit. Got the suit off, put my sunglasses and helmet on, then ran out of transition. My shoes were already clipped in so I got out pretty quick, but when I put my feet into my shoes the heels collapsed and I had to pull them out before closing the velcro strap. Bike
Comments: The bike leg went okay, after a rough start. First I had trouble getting my feet all the way into my shoes, then on the opening stretch I hit a huge pothole and I was convinced I was going to "taco" my front wheel. Thankfully I didn't and was able to keep going. I rode the course pretty well, including one very long hill around the mid-point of the leg. Transition 2
Comments: Coming into T2 I decided to not jump off the bike as it was moving because the chute was narrow, so I came to a stop before hopping off. Ran into transition, racked the bike, got my helmet off and running shoes on, grabbed my number belt and visor and I was off. Run
Comments: As usual, my run sucked. It was starting to warm up and I was sweating buckets. My pace felt okay (for me) but clearly I was slower than almost everybody. Post race
Warm down: Got to the finish, took off my running shoes and jumped right into the lake to cool off. Grabbed some water and food, then packed up my transition area. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training this season. Event comments: Considering that I have not really trained this year and it was my first tri of the season, I had a good race and I was pleased. Last updated: 2009-01-30 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30am, drove to Newton to pick up my girlfriend who was coming to watch her first triathlon. On the way to the race we drove through some real heavy rainstorms, which was making me nervous about the race. By the time that we got to the race site, the rain had stopped and the sky was starting to clear a bit. Checked in, got my transition area set up, then hung around with GF and some teammates before the race started.
Jumped in the water a few minutes before the race started and swam about 50 yards just to get acclimated to the water temperature.
