Run
Comments: The first 6 miles were crazy crowded. My plan was to start out slow so this was okay. Just ease into it. The only hitch we had during this section was the number of bathroom breaks I had to take. Sheesh. I am currently seeing a urologist for a bladder issue and it was in full form today. I knew this going in and decided I would race the best I could and long port-a-potty lines would be part of it. It was so cool running through the downtown area and seeing the historical buildings. Jim and Beka were cheering at mile 4. My coach and her family were at mile 10. The aid stations were fantastic with the most awesome volunteers. I loved the old neighborhoods with huge trees shading the streets. There was not a block that didn't have someone ringing some cowbell. There were a couple of long false flat sections in the middle and I was so glad when we reached the downside of those. Wash Park was more challenging than I expected. Maybe because you run around it and then back through it. We were so thankful that Drew, Laura, Stacie, and Tony were there to cheer us on. BIG THANKS from both of us! Toward the end I had to start taking walk breaks. My legs were so ready to be done. My coach had warned me how tough the last few miles can be. I especially appreciated Kelly during this time as she encouraged me to hang on and keep pushing forward. It's good to know how the end feels and I think the mental aspect of it will help me down the road. We saw Jonathon as we approached mile 26 and the rest of our support group was just around the corner. The sound of the crowd was so sweet. Music to my ears. Kelly ran my first 5k with me so it was only fitting to have her by my side as we crossed the finish line of my first marathon. My husband was so proud of me. I can't believe I did this. I am still smiling. Post race
Warm down: We dilly dallied around just enjoying the crowd and then headed over to Katie Mullens to enjoy lunch with the Denver for Dime BT crowd. I ate a big burger and fries. So fun celebrating with everyone. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bladder issues. I just couldn't make up the time lost standing in port-a-potty lines. :( Event comments: I'd do this again in a heartbeat. I loved the course. The volunteers were awesome. Lots of spectator support. Post race food sucked but I did get a few samples of Bear Naked granola which I love. Last updated: 2009-01-31 12:00 AM

Normal stuff. Shower, breakfast, and out the door. Went through a few moments of panic feeling intimidated about the distance. Hit the port-a-potty lines twice. Met up with Kelly. Made a quick decision to ditch the water bottle, carry a gel flask, and leave the arm warmers behind. We were too late to get anywhere near a pace group so we stood on the outside of the chute and waited for an opening in the masses. My first marathon. OMG. I was so excited.
