Age Group Rank = 10/18
Pre-race routine:

Shower and breakfast early. Pack up bike and stuff and head to race nice and early. Set up transition area, checkin, body marking, usual morning B.M. food and water hour before race time.
Event warmup:

Stretching in transition area, light running back and forth in the pre-race area and light swim climatization for 10-15 min. before my wave starts.
Swim
  • 12m 34s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was not a real tri swim due to the shallow water the entire way. Majority of swimmers dolphin diving and walking the whole way. My swim is very weak, so this benefitted me greatly. I did a combination of dolphin diving and freestyle swimming and stayed in the pack. I even passed people using this method. This swim time does not reflect my real swimming abilities and far exceeds a best casee scenario for me but is representative of this specific swim. The slowest swimmers came in around 15 min.so my time was in line with that.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Transition was very good. Just forgot to put my race belt on and left it hanging on the handlebars. That only cost me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

remember to put race belt on bofore running with bike.
Bike
  • 54m 45s
  • 30 kms
  • 32.88 km/hr
Comments:

This was my best bike leg yet. Pace was quick, I felt good and had lots of fluid and a gel pack without having to slow down.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Transition to running shoes was quick. Most of the time involved running all the way through the transition and out the far end where the run started before stepping on a timing mat.
Run
  • 30m 46s
  • 6 kms
  • 05m 08s  min/km
Comments:

Just stayed within myself speed wise and really concentrated on running form and picking the feet up to avoid the lazy shuffle thing I can get into. This focus by itself improves my speed I find without having to try and go faster.
What would you do differently?:

Get more paractise milage in.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much! Happy with the speed I went. Need to get serious on the speed training work if I want to see better run times.

Event comments:

I didn't mind having the shallow swim because my swimming sucks and it played into my hand, but to be a serious tri swim, they need to find a way to make it a better open water swim without the ability to stand along the route.
