Pre-race routine:

Springsteen concert the night before, home and to bed unavoidably late (incredible show!). Up at 6:30, normal breakfast routine, off to the race.
Event warmup:

Light stretching and a little jogging. Mostly trying to keep warm, low temps plus wind made it very chilly.

Comments:

Hilly. Mostly the 1st half. Back of the middle pack isn't a bad place to be for a newbish runner, I think.
As soon as I reached the uphill segment on Griggs Road the left hammy-hurt started up, coupled with an unpleasant climb into a strong headwind. Today's decision was "run a cone, walk a cone" until the grade or the wind relented. Probably saved me from an unnecessary injury.
What would you do differently?:

Be better at running uphill. Got a few close by to help with that

Walked it off, drank a little gatorade, sweats on.

Course: Very hilly course. Big climb the 1st mile, onto single track in the Back Country system, winding up around then down (!) to Griggs/Daniels Park Rd. Uphill, paved then unpaved surface, to the East-West Trail and no more climbing of substance.
