Swim
Comments: Wow the wetsuit is awesome. I can't believe how quickly and effortlessly swimming felt. TT start with 5 sec btwn people. I passed 20+ and maybe more on the course. Raced a guy into the exit and never saw him again. This may be the best swim I have ever done. Didn't see the 2nd bouy and would have missed the turn if not for the kayak past the bouy. Swam to the exit till my hand hit the ground then out. Lost my bike to run gel on the way to T1. What would you do differently?: Not a thing. Actually look around a little more. Beautiful location very fast swim! Transition 1
Comments: Out of the water goggles up zipper open top down the waist cap and goggles into hand Dropped the cap on the extended run to T1. That fumble cost me the swim win in my division and a place overall (less than 2 seconds) Long run to the mat (40 sec maybe). I was racked on the end closest to bike out. Great spot. Gravel in the parking lot was not bad. What would you do differently?: Not much. Try stepping on the suit vice using hands (practice) to save a few more seconds. Another place or two Bike
Comments: Good ride overall. Passed mount line and did a slow jumping mount. Still not comfortable with that but it worked. Rt calf cramped around 11 mi for a few turns. Shot half a bottle of acceleraid and mellowed the pace just enough so it didn't hurt. Need to put more miles in and get used to pushing harder. What would you do differently?: Get a gel secure for use on this leg. Get a salt stick for this bike and take a few early on the ride. Need to train the hills harder and get more time in the saddle. Transition 2
Comments: Dismounted well and carried bike to rack. Got out of sequence on T2. Put one shoe on then helmet then visor then 2nd shoe. Spectators giving directions threw me off, how silly... Race belt was on in T1 so I was ready to go. What would you do differently?: Practice short runs w/o socks and see if the feet can take it. Run
Comments: Better than hoped for. Run was a little short based on my watch (2.89) First split was around a 7:37 pace and maintained throughout. Only remember being passed by 1 in my age group just out of T2 and a 50 yr old at the .75 point who finished 2nd and ran an 18:15 (wow). Almost caught a guy in my division in the last mile but was unable to close him out in the last tenth. He finished 16 sec ahead on the run and a min ahead overall. What would you do differently?: Try it w/o socks. Leave the visor in T2 today. Didn't need it and it may have added a little heat. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a while, changed and went to the start for my shoes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Better than expected by almost 4 min. Gotta drop weight Event comments: Disorganized post race. Little food/water and No trash cans to be found. It is the little things. The venue is amazing but they could pay a little attention to the finishing touches and make the race that much better. Last updated: 2009-02-01 12:00 AM
