Swim
Comments: What a horrible swim. The chop was bad in both directions. Felt like crap, no rhythym. No drafting, couldn't seem to find the buoys, felt like I must have swam a few hundred yards extra. Transition 1
Comments: Still need to get used to Speedplays, took a few seconds getting in. Jersey stuck on shoulders, took a while to get it down. What would you do differently?: Keep riding and get used to pedals. Bike
Comments: Never thought i'd have a race where my age group rank was better on the bike than on the run. But for as bad as my swim was, but bike was great. Felt fast yet confortable. Found a few people that were my pace and targeting always keeping them in eyesight. This worked really well and made me keep pushing. Finished feeling strong and that I could have easily gone harder, but not that I had not pushed hard enough. One of the best bikes, race or non-race, of my life. What would you do differently?: Maybe slap a little chamois butter on in T1 to cut down on the taint pain. Transition 2
Comments: Good t2, actually stopped and looked around because I felt it was too easy and I was forgetting something. Little logjam during dismount. Run
Comments: Started with need to pee so bad. Eventually snuck off at mile 1 at a tree. My shins hurt for the first 2.5 miles, but I did the 9 min run 1 min walk to stretch them out. THe shin pain went away and I flet great for the next 4 miles. Then I starting getting "stitches" under my left bottom rib. Keptpumping fluids and double up on salt tabs (4 in 1 hr, sindtead of normal 2). Walked every water stop. Hit the wall @ 10 miles. Not that my body really hurt then, just was bored and unmotivated. Started picking short goals and got into a conversation with a similar paced runner. Ended up running the last 3 miles with him and flet great. Slow steady finish. Much better than last year, the heat differential was huge. Post race
Warm down: None, 3 plates of pasta What limited your ability to perform faster: More run training and more bricks. Event comments: Had a goal of sub (most specifically 5:56:30) after my poor 6:30 last year in the heat. The swim pissed me off so I took it out on the bike and ended up showing myself that I can actually bike (at least on the flats). NOt only was my time much faster but I felt great after the race (I bleieve nimble like a balerina was thrown in conversation), and feel good the day after. Last updated: 2005-06-30 12:00 AM
