Run
Comments: I stuck to the plan which was 20' run with 1' walk intervals and to run through the hills. I was even paced throughout the run but I knew going into this year's race that I would not break last year's time due to injury recovery and being 10 lbs heavier. On the other hand, the legs were feeling great and I feel like I had a solid race overall. On the nutrition front, I stuck to the plan once again. I had one GU gel 15 minutes before the start, another one at 1:03:00 and a third one at 1:44:00. I also drank Gatorade every 20 minutes. What would you do differently?: Lose the ballast!!!!! If I would have done so, chances are I would have killed last year's time. Post race
Warm down: Stretched, stretched, stretched. Walked about 1km to the bus shuttle station. Had chocolate milk, a Power Bar recovery bar and lots of water. Soaked for 30 minutes in the bathtub with Epsom Salts and lavander essential oil. What limited your ability to perform faster: My weight and injury recovery. Event comments: In spite of the weight and injury issues, I had a good run today. Looks like this race will be come an annual staple. I like the course and all but the only issue I have is that I have to train during the winter time, which is not always pleasant around here. Last updated: 2009-02-02 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep so well. Got up at 5:00 and had a good breakfast consisting of a banana, apple-cranberry english muffin, light cream cheese, 1 bottle of Ensure, water and tea. My bag was packed already so all I needed to do was to shower, grab the gatorade bottles and go.
Just ran enough to warm up, not the 2km I did last year (I followed Van Paulus's advice from last year's race). I stretched for a good 20 minutes thereafter and went a couple of times to the port-a-pottie.
