Swim
Comments: I started as the 211th swimmer. The girl in front of me let me pass at the second turn, thanks MEG much appreciated. I had 2 other people let me pass at the wall turns and I am gratefull for their kindness to do so. The last 50 meters I was right behind a girl but did not pressure her to pass and I let up. What would you do differently?: Should have passed the last 50 meters. Need to be a faster swimmer. My next goal is 1:40/100 by August 1. My time was about 1:50/100, the mat was about 80 yards from the pool exit and thus added to swim time. Transition 1
Comments: I was running out behind the person I should have passed the last 50 meters of the swim and due to the narrow lane to run out, I was slowed down but once I passed I ran, not jogged, I ran to the bike, HR monitor stap on, shirt on, socks and shoes on, sunglasses on, helment on, run to mount, and I'm off...... What would you do differently?: Pass when I think I should, not hold back. Learn to mount bike and then get into shoes. Practice transitions 1x a week. Bike
Comments: I mounted and rode at a moderate pace for the first mile. Once I got past the first mile I started pusing it but not hard. I passed ~ 12-14 people during the ride and got passed by no one. Actually passed 3 guys riding the high tech bikes. I ride a Cannondale R600 Road Bike. I talked to several people during the ride. While I was riding I had time to reflect back on my life growing up on these roads and my time in HS here. It was sentimental and a few times I had to chuckle at the memories. What would you do differently?: Start pushing from when I mount. Not socialize during the ride, talk at the end of the race. I lost some momentum by talking to 3-4 folks and riding beside them. I slowed myself down. I did enjoy socializing but I hurt myself in time doing this. Transition 2
Comments: Coming in I slowed down a bit. I dismounted and ran quickly to T2. Took ~ 15 seconds longer than I should by getting the POLAR watch off the bike. What would you do differently?: I need to learn how to get feet out of shoes on the bike. I put bungee laces in my shoes so I slipped them on quickly and was off. Get 2 watches, wear one, have one on the bike. Run
Comments: I had a good pace and ran well all the way and then at the turnaround I walked when I got water, started back running immediately. I ran beside a guy and talked with him 1/4 mile and then he started walking the hill before the 2 mile mark and so did I but within 30 seconds I started running again. I was fine till I hit that last big him. I walked 20 seconds and the ran hard the last 300 yards till finish. What would you do differently?: RUN ALL THE WAY. NEED TO DO SERIOUS HILL WORK. I have only been running since 1/5/09 after 5 years on the couch. Believe in myself and push harder. My running is a weakness but I plan to have my pace to 8:30 mile by September as I ready for Augusta. Post race
Warm down: Stretches, sat down. Had some water, pizza, watched fellow finishers come in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Transitions, my running is a big weakness. Need to enhance my swim speed also. Event comments: SETUP EVENTS and the folks at RIVERWOOD did absolutely great! The drivers were kind and watched for bikers. I will definately do this race next year. I missed 3rd place Podium by 50 seconds. That walking I did costs me, but hey, this was only my second Tri. Overall I was pleased with my performance and I met some wonderful people! Last updated: 2009-02-04 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:30, had a bagel, Cytomax drink, and I was off. I was pumped for this race since I grew up 5 miles from there and knew the roads like the back of my hand. This is my back yard! Listened to some favorite tunes, and enjoyed to short ride from Cary to Clayton.
I didn't do to much. Had coffee, talked with folks, walked the transition in/out to familiarize myself, and rode the bike about 15 minutes easy/hard intervals. Probably should have ran a bit but I just did not.
