Run
Comments: Started out way too fast. I have a real hard time pacing myself at these shorter events. Or maybe its that I can't hold the pace that I want to hold. Passed one of my tri class friends at about mile 2. We were both starting to run out of gas. At a couple points during the run we were on a trail that still had quite a bit of ice so that slowed me down some and I about biffed it on one corner. Glanced at my watch at about mile 2.5 and realized I might have a PR in me. Holy crap, pick it up! Made it to the homestretch and passed a guy who was moving pretty slow. He he! But wait, jokes on me. He started to sprint. We sprinted neck and neck for awhile before I fell off. Dang! There went second in my age group by 5 seconds. What would you do differently?: Several people opted for the road instead of the trail in some places to avoid the ice. I probably could've shaved some time off that way. Post race
Warm down: Walking, talking, cheering, pancakes What limited your ability to perform faster: Umm, maybe actually train for speed, although that's hard to do in the winter. Avoid the ice Event comments: This was actually a really good race for mid-February in Iowa. A fair amount of people showed up and there were a lot of good times. Weather was phenomenal too. Post race pancake feed was great. That hit the spot. Mmmmmm...pancakes Last updated: 2009-02-07 12:00 AM

Woke up 2 hrs before race. Typical PB and banana on toast for breakfast. Drove to race site, registered and talked to a few people from tri class that were doing the event.
Jogged about a half mile. Legs felt tight and didn't really want to move
