Swim
Comments: Plan was to do freestyle for 1 set of buoy's breaststroke for the next set. Started out good, but ended up getting beat up in the group I was in, so I moved more to breaststroke so I could stay out of the way. Lost more than a few minutes. What would you do differently?: Practice longer freestyle runs. Need more open water swims... Transition 1
What would you do differently?: T1 was OK, struggled to get the wet suit off (Why didn't I put the body glide on?) Didn't use the baby powder for my socks either.... I didn't put on my sun glasses, or gloves, which saved time... but see below Bike
Comments: Bike start was a disaster, I choose to put my glasses on after mounting my bike, I lost the nose holder that comes with the glasses. I put the glasses a little further down my nose & kept going, Then after pulling out my 2nd glove my thermolytes ended up on the ground. Left them too, & kept moving. Figured if I could do the race before without them, I'd be fine (but last years it was 20 degrees cooler). Rest of bike was uneventful, picked folks off one after another, but had to pee bad. What would you do differently?: Pack the bento box differently. Transition 2
Comments: I came into T2 with the bike, dismounted & started to run for the rack. There is a downward slope on the entry to the transition area, I started running & went flying, landing on my butt with the bike going away from me towards one of the race officials. He caught it, asked me if I was OK, & told me to run for my rack, he would rack the bike for me. Had to Pee bad. What would you do differently?: Watch my footing when coming into T2 at this site. Run
Comments: Had to pee, left transition and ran right into port o potty. Man it felt good. 1st mile was really tough, somewhere after that started following a lady who was just slightly faster than I was until mile 4 when I passed her. She followed me after that, at mile 5.5 needed a minute on the hill so started walking, she came up to me & gave me some encouragement, then I started running again. Finished 3 seconds in front of her. Heel was an issue for 1st mile, but after that it was OK, & good this morning. What would you do differently?: Nothing really happy about the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, really enjoyed the smoked chicken BBQ lunch What limited your ability to perform faster: All the small weird issues that happened, Garmin, thermolytes, sunglasses, Pee.... Also wine tasting for the 2 days before. Event comments: Will come back next year again if I can. Just maybe take it a little easier on the wine tasting the day before Last updated: 2009-02-09 12:00 AM

Had to deal with the loss of my right areobar pad by calling around to different bicycle shops. Finally finding out that the areobar dealer was where I was picking up my race packet!
Laid out gear, discovered that my Garmin was not working again, Wine tasting the day before all day long didn't help my attitude.
Swam a little bit just before the start, Otherwise no real warm up
