Pre-race routine:

Drove to the race.
Event warmup:

Ran for 20 minutes; swam for a few minutes.
Swim
  • 11m 6s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started a little too slow. Got tired of swimming next to the same guy and he was swimming into me so I gassed it a bit and realized I needed to be swimming harder anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Need to start a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Need to get helmet on quicker.
Bike
  • 36m 41s
  • 14.05 miles
  • 22.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Yesterday's 4 hour ride took a little out of me. But this was a good test mentally.
I felt like I left it all out there which is where I need to be on a sprint.
What would you do differently?:

If Ironman Austria was not so close, I would have ridden easier/shorter the day before.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Run
  • 23m 58s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I passed another guy in my age group on the bike with a mile or so to go. He looked back just in time to see me coming. He tried to lift his pace. I wanted to pass him quickly so that I did not drag him along. I made it my mission to not get passed by him on the run. That really helped to push me. He did not pass me. In fact, I gained a little more time on him and saw no other 40-44s on the course. Unfortunately it was because one guy smoked me on the swim and was a bit faster on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I think I had the run dialed in as best as I could do today. I had that feeling like I really wanted to stop or slow because it was unpleasant.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and a popsicle.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Yesterday's ride although this is my fastest tri run yet.

Event comments:

This is the third year for this race. They have done a great job puttign it on each year.

I really need to work on my run. I don't want to have to run with the fear of getting passed, although that did me some good today. I'm giving up 1-1.5 minutes/mile. If the bike was shorter or a couple guys a bit faster on the bike, goodbye podium spot.

My swim is coming along but I need to dial in my effort better. I spotted a few guys upwards of 2 minutes on the swim. That needs to change.
