Swim
Comments: I think the swim was long because all the times reflect that. I started up front and got out with 2 girls. I realized that one of them couldnt sight well so I got on the other girls feet and stayed there. We soon caught up with the wave in front. It is really hard to sight orange bouys when the wave in front of you are wearing the exact same color orange caps! It was like all the bouys were moving, ha! I had a great swim for me and came out the water #2 in my wave- that never happens! Time includes the run up into T1. Transition 1
Comments: I think the time it took to get the wetsuit off was still worth it. I need all the help I can get on the swim. Bike
Comments: My plan was to go all out on the bike then I remembered what a mess these Tempe loop courses are, add to it the fact that this race attracts lots of beginners, and I soon realized that I'd have to hold back. That is OK. I did a great job the first lap of dodging other bikes, on the 2nd lap, a Mtn biker pulled right in front of me and I swerved and passed her on the right to avoid a crash. 10 seconds later the USAT official on a motorcycle pulls up besides me and yells "number 13 passing violation!" WTF??? However he proceeds to ride in front of me telling the other bikers to get right. It kind of rattled me though because I have never had a penalty before. I hate to get in trouble, ha! What would you do differently?: I would have loved to ride this course really fast but it wasnt going to happen on the tight course. Transition 2
Comments: Quick transition Run
Comments: This was on OK run. I think I could have gone faster. It was lonely and hot. I didnt see anyone in front of me until almost mile 1, I passed her and then another girl at mile 2. I was coming over the Mill ave bridge when they said I was #4. That made me feel good because I knew there was a pro/elite wave start and 2 other waves that started ahead of me. Mile splits: 7:05, 6:45, 6:40 What would you do differently?: Go out faster. Post race
Warm down: I collected my stuff, ate lots of cookies and waited for results/awards in the shade. I checked the penalty list and was glad to see I didnt get a penalty. When they took the elite & pros out, I got 1st overall amateur. I was very surprised. I also had the fastest bike and run splits, now if only I could fix the swim, ha! Got a great gift basket as a prize which included Lactate threshold testing and a day at a salon (hair cut, color, manicure, pedi etc). Event comments: Well run event with lots of first timers. Its fun to see people complete their first Tri or first OWS. Great food, schwag etc too! Last updated: 2009-02-14 12:00 AM

I really was not in the mood to race. It had been a busy, tiring week and I was still recovering from Wildflower. I registered for this sprint before I knew I was racing Wildflower. However I talked myself into getting up and using it as a training day. I drove over by myself as my kids had games and it's a short race. I missed having my family and team mates there but I felt kind of relaxed and had no pre-race nerves. But I did see BT's BryanCD and his wife- always good to get a high five from hime before a race. Got my packet, bodymarked, set up transition. I was lucky number 13 with a great spot on the last bike rack out!!
Just wandered around and had a mental debate as to whether or not to wear the wetsuit. The lake temp was 77.5 degrees Hmmm, just wetsuit legal! I finally got kicked out of transition by an official and still had the wetsuit in my hand so the decision was made for me.
