Swim
Comments: I felt pretty good on the swim until about 3/4 and started having goggle problems. I drank a bunch of water and coughed and hacked while trying to fix them. Couldnt get them fixed and just swam the rest of the way with water sloshing around. What would you do differently?: Get different goggles and not buy them right before the race without practicing with them. Transition 1
Comments: I felt like I did pretty good on the first transition and I was glad I moved to the very end of the transition area because I only had to run a little bit in my shoes. I dont know what I did with my sunglasses but they were no where to be found but I found them later in my bag. Did the whole bike and run without glasses. Good thing it was overcast and not sunny What would you do differently?: Remember to put my sunglasses in my bike helmet. Bike
Comments: I felt like I really killed the bike and I was flying. I only got passed by a couple of really fast guys and I passed quite a few people. I was planning to remove my shoes to go through transition but right before I got there the person in front of me starting undoing their shoes so I did as well. My feet were ready to just come out of my shoes so right before I got to the dismount I pulled my feet out and left my shoes on the bike which was a good call. I mixed my drink for the bike too strong, it was hard to drink on the bike. What would you do differently?: I ran through transition with my bike on the wrong side of me. It should have been on the other side because I had to go around it after I racked it. Taste my drink for the bike before I loaded it up in the morning, blech. Transition 2
Comments: My practice with Dillard paid off on this one. I had my shoes on and I was running with everything else in my hand pretty quickly. What would you do differently?: Get on the right side of my bike before I get to the rack. Run
Comments: I followed my plan and went out easy and built up to a good pace. I was suprised to look down at my Garmin and see a low 8 min pace. I was breathing pretty good but just stayed with it. I was starting to get passed by the people I passed on the bike but I just stayed in form and tried to push. I felt slow getting passed but this was a fast run for me. I pushed hard at the finish and I was getting hot and huffing/puffing hard. I had to lay down on my back and really suck air after the finish. A fireman came over to ask if I was all right and I told him yea I just had to leave it all on the course at the end! I didnt feel normal for at least 10 minutes after the finish. I havent even run this fast in training really so I feel like I killed it. What would you do differently?: Train more running and get faster! Post race
Warm down: I was wandering around clueless and found the food tent. I was talking to Julia Purrington and she asked me if I wanted to do a warm down and I was like what is that? So we jogged back to the transition area which was good because I was starting to get cold and I put on some dry warm gear. What limited your ability to perform faster: I could lose another 20 lbs. for sure and increase my running miles. I think I need a little more stamina and a higher threshold for the run. Event comments: I am super happy with my result for my very first triathlon ever! I trained hard and I am glad I got what I think is a good result. Now all I have to do is train harder and get faster!! There was a lot of distance between the transition and finish area but the finish area had lots of activity going on. I didnt stick around because I wanted to get back to Denver and wash off all the PAM that I sprayed on myself! Last updated: 2009-02-14 12:00 AM

Setup my bike and transition area and decided to move it after warming up and talking to Mike Ricci. The transition area was long and skinny and I picked a spot right out of the water which meant I would have to run pretty far with my bike shoes on. Glad I did that.
Did around 5 minutes on my bike to get my legs warmed up and then a even shorter run but I was nervous about getting over to the swim start area which was pretty far away. I lost all sense of time from being anxious and I was at the start area for the swim forever it seemed like. Oh yea did a swim out to the first buoy and back.
