Swim
Comments: This was probably my best swim in an event due to the wetsuit and warm up. I did pretty well sighting (not perfect by any stretch, but I didn't get off course at all) and was quite tight to the last bouy. The worst of it was on my approach to the beach..I went off course a bit toward the docking and had to correct for that. I was going hard and not sighting as much as I should have at the very end. I only lost a bit of time over it though. What would you do differently?: Sight a bit more often and try to stay tighter to the bouys. Otherwise, I thought it was a good swim! Transition 1
Comments: Well, I still stink it up on the transitions purty good! I did much better than my first tri last year, and with a wet suit this time, but my shoes just did not want to be buckled and my fingers refused to help! The wetsuit came off like a charm though...that was my biggest worry. It was a LONG run in the bike shoes to the mount line! A LONG run! What would you do differently?: Practice lots more!!! I think I'll get myself some tri shoes as a reward for placing in this race. I am just not coordinated enough to deal with the buckles on my sidi shoes while racing! Bike
Comments: Well, I got first in my age group which is very cool, but I had hoped to break 20mph average on this ride. I rode it just a bit faster than last weeks run through, but it felt slower. My breathing was a bit wheezy and I took in hammer gel at 2 points on the ride, which is sticky and kinda gross, so I was drinking (going slower than usual) more than I typically do on a ride. I had to brake hard at the only left on the course, which was a drag, but I did have the chance to pass up quite a few folks on the bike...that was FUN! What would you do differently?: Practice eating and drinking more, be more aggressive in passing, hammer a bit more! Transition 2
Comments: See t1! Still stinky, but better than last year's first race I think. I had to take off my jacket and when I bent down to put on my socks and shoes I got light headed...that took a few seconds to clear up, then I did ok. My race belt would not go on, so I just took off and put it on during the run. Man, I so owe Matt some cookies! What would you do differently?: Practice lots more!!! Maybe blow off the socks...I've never run with no socks, but perhaps I should try that! One less thing to think about! I think I will be getting tri shoes so I can get my feet out of the bike shoes and run barefoot into t2. That was a LONG way to run in bike shoes! I felt like I was running how Fred Flinstone bowls! :-) Run
Comments: Yay! I finally decided to push it on a run, my weakest link in this sport! My feet were pretty much frozen the first 2 miles! That is a weird and annoying feeling. Quite a few other people had this issue too. The best thing about this run for me was that I was determined to push it unless my knees said otherwise,it was HARD,and kinda SUCKED! I took some good advice from my BT friends and man am I glad I did! A new PR for the 5k distance and my first ever AG placing! No, I'm not fast, but I am FASTER than I was!!! Yay! What would you do differently?: I walked through the water stations...I think if I fueled better on the bike I wouldn't need water on the run. Practice more bricks with a little longer run. The few bricks I did had mostly 8-10 minutes runs...I will shoot for 20 minutes now. Post race
Warm down: I jogged to the chip area and back really slowly as my HR was very high! got my medal and my recovorite and cheered in all the peeps out on the course still with Kimm, Craig, Jon and Jeff. Snacked in the Greyhound tent later! What limited your ability to perform faster: limited t1 nd t2 practice, not pushing it on the bike, not practicing nutrition on the bike better, having to run so far in and out of trasition in slippery bike shoes! :-) Event comments: This was such a great race! All the good things I've heard were true...great short course, well organized, and even a very cute tech race shirt that I'll actually wear in public! It was a perfect day because of all the people I shared it with, the BT RAWK'rs, the RACING GREYHOUNDS, and my Jogo! I could not have wished for a better race to get my first podium finish!!! Had my usual breakfast...banana,slice of wheat toast w/nut butter, ff yougut with fruit, coffee. Hit the neighbors right at 5:00 with all my gear, visulized a bit on the long ride (compliments of Billy driving..Love that guy!) and kept sipping water. When we got there, got my packet, chip and started to set up transition...I thought Bill was still hanging on to my bike for me, so I called him...Nope...he gave it to Jason at the chip area! I did have a bit of a heart attack at this point, but Jason was right where Bill said he was being an awesome bike babysitter! THANKS JASON! Walked the t1 and t2 area, grabbed my wesuit and headed over to the team tent...got a pic, then went down to the water!
I swam before the race for the first time ever. I never seem to hit my stroke groove until half way through the race, so I decided to get wet and see if it helped. I think it did a lot. I didn't swim too long, and soon enought it was time to que up for our mass start with Jo, Marian, Karen, and Sue!
