Swim
Comments: Even though I went twice as fast this year compared to last, I am not happy with the way I swam. Started way to fast, tired myself out and didn't enjoy all the kicks slaps etc I took. AFter the 1st buoy, i couldn't swim straight. Swam to the kyak, the paddle boat, whatever else was in the water. Came out feeling good though. What would you do differently?: Go back to starting slower, then try to get my pace about 100 yards in instead of the sprint to start. Work more on my sighting. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on my left heel. Otherwise I felt I did this transition fine. Did well running and getting the wetsuit off my upper body. What would you do differently?: Remember to stomp on the wetsuit to get it off of heels. Bike
Comments: passed well, took it a little easy up the big hill. Need to drink more to prepare better for the run. Had a little calf cramping problem about 1/2 through, so spent some time stretching the calves. What would you do differently?: push a little harder up the hill. Transition 2
Comments: Normally don't run with socks, and usually wear different shoes, but I've been fighting a sore heal. Had problems getting my socks on. Had to tie shoes also. What would you do differently?: Get back to wearing no socks and using my race shoes. Run
Comments: Wasn't hydrated enough for this. Was thirsty the whole run. Calves continued the cramping from the bike, had a slight hammy cramp 1/4 in. Finished better after the water. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the run, maybe have a small bottle to carry with me to start the run. Post race
Warm down: light stretching. Water (needed more), brats. What limited your ability to perform faster: The cramping issue. Couldn't swim straight. Event comments: Would've like to see 1 more water station a little earlier. the turn from the road into the park near the end was not marked well, and I questioned whether I was in the right spot. Had a good breakfast of oatmeal, 2 egg whites and 2 pieces of Ezekiel bread with 1tbs of peanut butter per slice. Still need to get to the area earlier to try and add some running beforehand. Had a good(great) transition spot, far edge of the closest bike in/out rack.
Rode the bike from car to transistion area. Got in 15 minutes of swimming before race. Since this was my first time in the open water of the season should've been longer.
