Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim for me. I've been consistently doing this distance in about 14 min in the pool, so I thought 14:49 in my 2nd OWS ever wasn't too bad. A little contact, but none of it hurt, and I think I sighted pretty well. I think I finished mid to back of my wave, but I wasn't at all the last one of the wave done. What would you do differently?: I did about 1/2 breast and 1/2 free. I would like to work up to all free in future races. Transition 1
Comments: This is a BIG race and it's a long transition area. I was probably only 1:30 at my tranistion area, and the rest of the time was running (well, walking) in and out of transition to the timing mats. What would you do differently?: Not much. I had practiced my transitions at home, and I felt it went pretty smoothly. Bike
Comments: I was VERY happy with the bike. It's a pretty flat course (some rolling hills, but nothing too bad), and I just decided to go for it. Since I had been doing 13-14 mph in training, a race average of 15.5 mph was just awesome. I definitely passed more bikes than passed me. What would you do differently?: My bike computer actually said 42 minutes and change when I dismounted. I think the extra 2 minutes was getting off the bike (I caught my foot and almost fell) and running the bike down the hill to the transition mat. If I could improve that part, my bike time would improve. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. I think at this point my heartrate felt really high, and I took about 30 seconds to just breathe. What would you do differently?: Nothing - shoe change and racking went smoothly. It was just a really long transition area. Run
Comments: Since this is a huge race with 2400 athletes (sprint and Oly), the jogging path felt a little crowded at times, and there were lots of walkers (more than I expected). It also started to get really hot at this point, and I just had a mental block about the running. It is nice on the out and back to see a lot of you fellow triathletes and get high fives and cheers. Thank you to the triathlete who cheered us on at the 1/4 mile to the finish point. It really helped me finish stronger than I started the run. What would you do differently?: Run more! I know I can run this in about 37 min, so why did I walk so much? I ended up walking most of the way to the turnaround, and then just kicked it into gear and ran the 2nd half on the 5k. Post race
Warm down: It was great to hear my name as I crossed the finish line, and I got a big hug from my husband and daughters at the end. I convinced 4 friends to run this race with me, and I was so happy that we all finished well. Ironically, the only one I was really "competing" against was my big sister, and although we were in completely different waves, she beat me by 13 seconds on the final time. Argh! I'll get her next time! What limited your ability to perform faster: Really I just need to get over the mental block that I don't consider myself a runner. I know I can run the distance, so why do I always stop to walk? Overall, though, I was really happy for my first tri. A year ago, I never would have been able to do this, and I am completely hooked on my new sport. I am a triathlete! Event comments: This is a great event. Lots of racers, but also tons of spectators and great energy. Very well run too! Last updated: 2009-02-18 12:00 AM

Stayed at nearby hotel. Woke up at 4 am and couldn't get back to sleep. Left hotel with friends at 5:30, we were at the race by 6 with enough time to set up.
None. Mostly chatted with friends until we were ready to go.
