Swim
Comments: Good swim but it was definitely a long course this year. I improved my placing from last year & led my AG by about 2 mins, but was 20sec/100 slower than last year? I think it might have been about 200yds long. Felt long too :) What would you do differently?: Swim more Transition 1
Comments: :30 faster than last year but still a lot of room for improvement here. What would you do differently?: Just speed it up in general. Maybe work on incorporating the rubberband technique Bike
Comments: Mount went OK, I got up to speed, turned the first corner… and my contact lens popped out into my sunglasses. I pulled over and luckily it was still stuck against the glasses so I put it back in and got going again – that probably took about a minute in total. Not sure whether I should have just kept going without it but I’m fairly blind and it might have been unsafe for others without good depth perception etc. Oh well it wasn’t a huge deal. My time was slightly slower than last year but relative placing in the field was better and I didn’t get overtaken by as many people. Also I overtook someone myself for the first time ever :) - some guy who passed me at the start but then ran out of steam. Overall I was satisfied but want to really pick it up by next year. What would you do differently?: Ride more and longer. Transition 2
Comments: There was a timing error and my T2 & run times were combined, so this is just a guess. T2 went well – just racked the bike, threw on the shoes and went. What would you do differently?: I think his one was my fastest transition ever - I wish I knew the actual time. Run
Comments: Not sure of rank because everyone's T2/run times were messed up. Bottom third of AG probably. This is molasses-slow for most people but for me it’s lightning fast :). My aim was just to run the whole thing and not walk and I managed that. The last mile was a hard slog but I got through and beat my tri 5k PR by about 4mins. Even though the run was the worst part of my race compared to the field, this is the part I feel best about. What would you do differently?: Decent improvement since last year - keep up the running... run more! Post race
Warm down: Stretched, drank Heed for the first time and nearly threw up... that stuff is awful! Ate fruit and cheered others in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Relied mostly on existing swim form to get me through... I should keep up the swimming at least once or twice/week. Contact lens issue on bike. need more training volume overall. Event comments: Love this race and would be happy to do it every year. Last updated: 2009-02-20 12:00 AM
