Leamington Triathlon Weekend
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 18m 51s
Overall Rank = 25/76
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/5
Pre-race routine:

Chocolate Chip bagel and peanut butter along with several coffees. Drove to the event site for 6:30 and checked in, set up in transition, etc.
Event warmup:

Swam 200m in the water to get acclimated and had to run to go get a cap.
Swim
  • 13m 32s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 48s / 100 meters
Comments:

I got WAY off course at the beginning and almost overshot the first buoy. I have been swimming open water but not with a "destination" in mind...
What would you do differently?:

Train on sighting.
Transition 1
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

I didn't realize how hard it would be to get my wetsuit over my timing chip... Lesson learned.
Bike
  • 37m 25s
  • 20 kms
  • 32.07 km/hr
Comments:

Good bike - it was windy - but not awful.
What would you do differently?:

I would have gone harder on the bike... I don't think I went hard enough - I was focusing on it being a training day for me and I wanted to feel good for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I remember being a lot more "disoriented" in transition years ago - so this was good. I was quick, remembered to take off my sunglasses before my helmet, et.
What would you do differently?:

I need elastic laces.
Run
  • 24m 55s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 59s  min/km
Comments:

I forgot how goofy your legs feel after the bike - so that was a little unnerving. Quite frankly - I'm not sure if it was actually 5k - because my time seems VERY fast.
What would you do differently?:

More water on the bike.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't push hard enough because it was my first race in 7 years. I could have gone faster but I was scared about how I would feel at the end. Next time I will push more, work on sighting in the water

Event comments:

This is the third time I've done this event. I used to to it when it was on the August long weekend - and was never ready early enough to do it in June. It's a well-organized, well-run event with happy friendly people and lots of positives.
