Swim
Comments: Blech. About halfway through there was a turn and right around there it got really really really stinky. It's a boat canal, with some docks, and not much water flow. Smelled like fuel and sewage and I wondered how long I could take it before I tossed my cookies. Continued on and it got less stinky, but considerably more murky (wait, where'd my hands go?). What would you do differently?: Not breathe? Put mints in T1? Transition 1
Comments: 2nd fastest in AG - that's what happens when I go without a wetsuit and socks! What would you do differently?: Shoes on bike, flying mount (but need to practice that first!) Bike
Comments: Ok, this here is a good reason NOT to do sprints. People seemed to have trouble staying right, riding in something resembling a straight line (especially with a cross-wind... yikes!). As soon as I got on the bike I dropped the hammer a flew by a group of people that I'd been stuck behind leaving T1. Never saw them again. Spent the whole ride cranking hard a riding waaaaay out in the lane passing many people. I think I got passed by 1 or 2 guys, the rest of the time I was flying up the road passing tons of people. Transition 2
Comments: What was I doing?!? What would you do differently?: Faster!! Run
Comments: Took a bit to get going. I figured I was running ~8-8:30 from the start and felt like I cranked it up to 7:30 pace near the end, but I guess I was going a lot faster than I thought. Was flying at the end!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Ate ice cream. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed work? Event comments: Finished 3rd in my AG, but the 2 ahead of me placed in the top 5 women overall, so I got bumped to 1st in the AG. Got me a bottle of red wine, socks and Nuun. Last updated: 2009-02-21 12:00 AM

Wow... sprints are awesome... slept until 6am!! Got up, made coffee, packed up my bag and rode the ~4mi down to the race site from the college dorm I was lodging in. Nice ride and tested out how my newly rigged aero drink worked (no rattling noise, very little splashing!). Checked in, got set up, and wandered around drinking coffee and eating cinnamon bread.
Did a little bit of running around just before transition closed to case out the swim start and the run start.
