Run
Comments: Official time was 1:22:01 but Race Announcer and my Polar watch both said 1:21:59, Perfect temp and low humidity with light breeze. 1st half mary, so monitored my HR to closely. Felt really good for the first 10 miles, last 5K was very hard couldn't get my HR to rise and legs wouldn't turn over. Quads were burning on the downhills. What would you do differently?: Needed to train more. Just decided in mid-December to go to Arizona for winter break. Increased mileage and training intensity to fast to have a peak performance race Do more long runs with race pace miles mixed into the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and talked to people, Drank some Gu sports drink, ate a bag of chips and breakfast burrito. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of endurance training and hills on the course. The hills were gradual rollers but tey really zapped my quads after the first ten miles. Event comments: Very good race, I definately would recommend running it. Event went really smooth up until the part where they awarded me the 1st place Masters plaque and a guy that finished ahead of me runs up and talks to the MC after the 45-49 age group was awarded. Waited until he got back from the official timers area to see what was up. I knew he was either in my group or the 45-49. I asked he how old he was when he got back and he said 44 so I handed him his plaque and talked to the MC about getting the 2nd place plaque. Hopefully I'll get it mailed to me.
