Total Time = 2h 17m 17s
Overall Rank = 58/104
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 11/14
Pre-race routine:

stayed in north bay, bad meal that weekend, drove bike course, lots of hills, a little worried
Event warmup:

short swim, stretch, morning start
Swim
  • 21m 58s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

everyone seemed to take off like a shot, strong swim compared to other fields, may have started out wrong edge of beach, a few metres longer, not sure, looked up and field way ahead, surprised considering this is my strongest leg
What would you do differently?:

better angle at the start, push it, first swim over 750, can do it easy
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

its close, they don't time it, this time right from water to runners no socks, feet dry during bike, not tooo uncomfortable
What would you do differently?:

tried to eat a power bar, worried about those hills
Bike
  • 1h 10m 56s
  • 32 kms
  • 27.07 km/hr
Comments:

surprised myself with a decent bike ride, really didn't lose placing relative to field after swim which is unusual, it was just a fast swim for everyone
What would you do differently?:

not sure what the heck to eat to avoid cramping in run, this was my first longer bike, felt good riding then came the run
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

feet pretty dry, right to socks and shoes, not bad, go for the anklet socks
Run
  • 44m 24s
  • 8 kms
  • 05m 33s  min/km
Comments:

once again bonked and cramped, got to get this pre-race nutrition down, plus it was near noon and got hot and humid, or so it seemed, in 5th tri and have only had one really good run under 5 min k's
What would you do differently?:

no big meals friday before
Post race
Warm down:

walked, stretch , post race dip

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not sure, nutrition and heat, a little intimidated driving early hills on bike, better in 2006 i hope

Event comments:

this race is a real challenge, the early hills on the bike make you work hard, some payback on the way down except for the rail tracks which make you slow down, so do the tight turns at the end, run is rolling and fun with lots of residents, they limit the number of racers, lots of teams and families, a great bunch of swimmers
