Swim
Comments: Held back a little, 5 seconds slower per 100 than where my coach wanted me to be. A little confusing at the end when you had to run around the buoy again before heading into t1. What would you do differently?: Hindsight... I would have gone a lot faster in the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Decent transition. I swam in my jersey so I had to stock nutrition and C02 into my jersey. Slowed down T1 a little. Bike
Comments: The bike course was nice a few hills and a lot of animals of all shapes and sizes. I thought that it would be more boring. What would you do differently?: At the last rest stop, they ran out of water so I had none. Around mile 50 a lady was handing out small bottles of water. Slowed down to grab some. Probably should not have. Transition 2
Comments: I took my time here. Timing guy was asking about how it was going. Told me to be careful. Told me to take water with me. What would you do differently?: It was slow, should not have dorked around as much. Run
Comments: And then the death march began. This just sucked. Miles 1-5 I had a slushy feeling in my stomach. Contemplated DNF-ing but decided to stick with it. At mile 7 the aid station had no water or Gatorade. I saw Karin and Hayes got some low 5's (P.S. Hayes, we still need to get those beers!).From then on it was just one big sufferfest. I survived that’s about the extent of it. What would you do differently?: Maybe ran with a fuel belt or similar hydration pack and applied more sunscreen. Post race
Warm down: Jumped into the lake and tried to find a spot of cold water. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat and lack of hydration and two aid stations. Event comments: I would do the race again. I think like most races in the future they need to be prepared for the worst case scenario. Last updated: 2009-02-23 12:00 AM

Woke up, packed up the car and ate a couple of bagels talked briefly to PinkCrush and Running2Far then headed to the race site. Got to the race site and talked to the timing guy. I know him from running races in Springfield. He is from that area. He gave me the advice to hold back and save some energy for the run. Told me it was going to be blistering hot. Drank some more Gatorade then ran to catch prerace meeting.
Stretched a little and really did not have too much time to do a whole lot.
