Pre-race routine:

get up get some jusice protien bars and get my sodium drinks ready for a hot day.
Event warmup:

setup the trans area and then head to the lake to watch the short cours start. After that hopped in and got some swimming in. water was cool but would end up be the bes place for me on that day.
Swim
  • 43m
  • 1760 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good time for me but may have used too much legs as Later in teh race my energy was zapped for the run
What would you do differently?:

need to get the free style consisent to drop my breast stroke
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

felt good
Bike
  • 2h 50m
  • 42 miles
  • 14.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Wind was a factor. The last 7 miles of each loop was right into a 15-25mpw head wind. In addition leading up to this last stretch consisted of a on again off again climb.

sucked alot of energy from my legs.
What would you do differently?:

I need aerobars first off. Second I just need to get a better push on hill training for this distance. I was shot which affected the remainder of the race.
Transition 2
  • 08m
Comments:

long stop and not sure where to head out. course was not marked the best
Run
  • 2h 00m
  • 10 miles
  • 12m  min/mile
Comments:

Heat humidity took their toll on me. I could barley run more than a half mile at a time.
What would you do differently?:

not sure??? I think the bike legg is what wrecked me here so I think that is where I need to focus. Ususally never have this type of problem in the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Thank god I finished. Run to the fire house and soak for awhile. sat around and tried to let me feet take a break.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HEAT AND HUMIDITY. 50 or so people stopped or had to have help off the course. There just was no cover from the sun. this just made it tough to keep the body cool.

So I am not sure there is any thing I could have done other than bike faster/smoother.

Event comments:

love the race and distance but only one drink station on a 20 mile loop seem light to me and others. no pre-race meeting to explain the transition entry and exits at all. I will consider this agan next year and hope to be better prepared.
