Swim
Comments: Put my face in the water and got swimming. Didn't panic at all. Just pretended it was a swim in my lake. Weird having little to no traffic on the inner line, but thats what happened in Philly too. I'll sacrifice drafting for no traffic anyday given that I'm a MOP swimmer at best. Swam all the way to the boatramp when other stood to run in deeper water. That proved to be smart. Hit the ground running. What would you do differently?: Nothing at all Transition 1
Comments: First time ever getting stripped haha. Loved it! Hustled and hit it, but used socks which slowed me down and proved to be an error in that I used bike socks that gave me a blister. Grabbed the bike and ran! What would you do differently?: Wear running socks if wearing socks. May try no socks on longer runs. Blisters suck. Bike
Comments: I had a plan to be smart and conservative on the bike, but once I started pedaling it became like a sprint or an olympic to me. I wasn't supposed to hit it for 15 miles, but I hit it early. Once out of my bike plan, I couldn't reel it back in. The adrenaline kicked in and I started slaying everyone. May have been passed 5-10 times but many of them I reeled back in as if it was a personal affront. I hooked up with Jimmy from VA and we got a nice thing going. Not drafting just passing and getting passed for about 48 miles. We got to know each other well during that time. Neither of us was going to give in and we were both virgins so it was a matter of stupidity and immaturity, but we both benefited tremendously. My watts and mph were just plain badazz. What would you do differently?: On a HIM, I think I can live by the sword. But on IMAZ I will have to dial it down, especially on hills. I just can't flat out hammer courses like I did that one and not suffer. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to say. Went with tie shoes instead of yanx which cost me as I had to tie my shoes on mile 7 or so. They were coming loose the whole time. What would you do differently?: Do yanx on my sturdier shoes, not just my racing flats. Run
Comments: I knew I could run at least 10k solid which I did (7:17 down to 7:51), but then the suffer fest began. Just prior to sufferfest I saw a teammate from TeamEC cramping so I tried to hang with him for 600-800 meters to get him righted before moving on, costing me some time but showing I'm a good sportsman. Then, I started getting dehyrdrated even though nutrition was right on target. Thus I started walking about 10-25 steps near most water stations. This went on from mile 6.5-11. I started questioning my stupid bike ride during this time and why I wanted to do IMAZ but I came back to reality soon enough when I figured my timing was at 4:34:00 and I had a chance at sub5. Then I hauled ass the last two miles. My last mile was 6:40. What would you do differently?: Budget the bike better, take in more hydration during the bike and run, and wear running socks with cushion. Post race
Warm down: Nearly passed out right after, so I leaned on a wall and got myself to the ground. Once I was righted with some water and rest I hung out with some teammates, and then the guys as they came through. I basically also limped around and grabbed pizza and water and gatorade. Took a picture of my blister. Then found the free beer and had 2.5 glasses and waited for awards with the Patterson family, who held a sign about Harvey the Slayer during the race and were big supporters of not only Brian but me and everyone else too. Then got called up to the podium with a nice intro about my age and time for a clydes. Beat on my chest a few times and hollared at the crowd "Who wants some of this?!?", took the photo that is my new avatar, and generally acted like an ass before hitting the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: My immaturity on the bike, the blister on my left foot, and dehydration. Helping my teammate was good and bad and walked a bit too much for my liking even though my splits weren't too bad because of the last two mile chug. Event comments: I had the best time of my life from a fun standpoint even though the distance is nasty and painful. Even though I impressed alot of folks, and proved I can dish out some pain, I had better grow up between now and IMAZ or I'm in for a world of hurt. Last updated: 2009-02-23 12:00 AM

Stayed with the nice BT family, the Pattersons, alias Tri14kix. TeamEC past dinner at 4pm and a few Mich Ultra Lime and Cactuses later on the night before while I packed and repacked.
Up early for his great coffee and some carbs. Hit the toilet.
Normal set up of transition but got to hang with my friends Brian, Marty, and Jeff as we were all later waves (later waves meant more sun for the run). We walked the mile or so from Transition to get chipped and hand bags in. Saw Jeff's wife, Scott, Orlando my trainer who came in from Athens, Kathleen and some others. Not able to swim, bike or run. Nerves started to build once I lined up with wetsuit on to the on deck circle.
