Event warmup:

Got to transition area about 7:15, set up and then went inside to swim some warm-up laps.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt great in the pool. Passed about 6 people. Part of above time included drying off and putting a jacket on since we had to run outside in 40 degree cold. I sacrificed some time here and in transitions in order to stay warm.
What would you do differently?:

Normally I wouldn't stop to dry off and put a jacket on...but normally it won't be 40 degrees when I run out of the building soaking wet.
Transition 1
  • 03m 1s
Comments:

Took time to put on arm warmers, fleece top and a wind vest. Too much time, but I stayed warm, which was what I decided pre-race.
What would you do differently?:

Race in warmer races:)
Bike
  • 46m 55s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 16.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Simple out and back. The race called for a 21k bike ride, but mine and several other racers computers showed over 14 miles. On the race website, my mph pace was 17.3. I wanted to be a little faster, but considering that there was only 2 people in my age group that had 19 mph or faster pace, I guess the wind had more effect than I thought at the time. Majority of the road that we road on was pretty rough and bumpy...at least compared to what I normally ride on.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure...passed a lot of people on the bike and only got passed once.
Transition 2
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

Took off sweatshirt and vest and put on wind jacket. Once again, took longer than normal, but decided pre-race that I was going with comfort. Will work on transitions for races where it is not freezing cold.
What would you do differently?:

Not forget hat or if I do, just leave without it. Wasted time going back to get it.
Run
  • 27m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

Ok run for me. I have not focused on running as much as the bike or swim so far this year.
Post race
Warm down:

Orange and water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold weather added about 5 minutes (estimated) to my time between putting on close in transition and toweling off after the swim.

Event comments:

I wanted to break 1:30 and did despite the extra transition times, so I am pretty happy.
