Swim
Comments: My main goal was to round the first big bouy before the Male 40-44 caught us. I wanted to get to the long stretch and stay to the outside so they could pass me with ease and not push me under. Mission accomplished and my navivation was great. What would you do differently?: Over the off-season, I want to learn how to breathe bi-laterally and not breathe every other stroke. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time because I wanted to eat something before hopping on the bike for over 3 hours. Bike
Comments: I had a GREAT bike ride. I took it easy on the way out, reading other BT logs from last year and knowing I needed to conserve energy for the way back. I didn't feel nearly as much fatigue and pain as I felt on training rides. My speed was faster and I simply had a blast. Great course! What would you do differently?: Had I known the course better, I would have been able to switch to the big and little rings for more of the hills. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Have gatorade in transition since I'm not a fan of Gatorade Endurance, which was on the run course. Run
Comments: My legs were fine coming off the bike. The problem was trying to run 13.1 miles at 1 in the afternoon, with extreme heat and humidity battling it's way onto the course. I threw up the Gatorade endurance and was forced to only drink water on the course. I felt like the water stops couldn't come fast enough, which wasn't a good sign because there were plenty of them. I had a severe headache, was feeling dizzy and was very emotional. I just wanted the run over. I had to walk a lot. It was all discouraging, as the run is my strongest leg, usually. I found Carrie on the last stretch, though, and we decided to finish together. It made the run and the finish a very memorable experience. What would you do differently?: Wear a fuel belt, since I can't deal with Gatorade Endurance. Not go out so fast. Post race
Warm down: Stuck my feel in ice water and drank a beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat and humidity on the run. Event comments: The race was only not on time because of a car accident out on the bike course. Keith and the rest of the Endorfun crew did an amazing job, as usual. Although this will probably be my only half ironman, I will definitely be doing Mooseman Int'l and Timberman Sprint next year!! Last updated: 2009-02-25 12:00 AM
