Swim
Comments: I have no idea what happened on this swim, I must have gotten hit by lightning or something. I still can't believe my time, I NEVER swim this fast. I started out going easy like I alwatys do, trying to keep from getting drowned. I had no problem navigating (I've been working hard on sighting)headed straight to the first turn. The weirdest thing happened at the turn, someone actually grabbed me and tried to use me as a flotation device, actually hung on to me. Now I've been kicked in the face, punched, pushed under, swam over and knocked sideways, but never hung on to. Anyways, I shrugged him off and started swimming for the second bouy. Pretty soon I noticed something strange, I was passing people! I never pass people on the swim. Well that discovery seemed to give me a burst of energy and I just kept pushing in. Needless to say how shocked I was when I checked my watch on the sand. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Wasted a couple of seconds to wipe off my face, I didn't want to have to deal with salt water in my eyes. What would you do differently?: Nothing, good transition Bike
Comments: Started out great until the U turn. When I got out of the saddle to crank out of the U turn my back wheel slipped forward and started rubbing the frame. Same problem I had in previous races that I forgot about. My race wheels are slightly bigger than my training wheels and I forgot to adjust the set screws where the rear axle mounts into the frame. Instead of stopping to fix it, I decided it was a short sprint and I would loose too much time fixing it. Not sure if that was the smartest move or not, I'm sure I lost quite a bit of time due to the rubbing but live and learn. What would you do differently?: Triple check my gear, especially my tires. Transition 2
Comments: Love the Zoots, made transitions so much faster. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Took about 1/2 mile to get my running legs back, didn't start feeling strong until the first water station. There were no distance markings on the course and I didn't have my footpod, so I didn't do a very good job of pacing. I also didn't know where the finish line was, I assumed it was at transition but I was wrong. It was 1/2 a mile or so short of it. I had plenty left in the tank at the end, I should have ran a lot harder than I did. What would you do differently?: Make sure I have my footpod and know the course better. Post race
Warm down: Walking around and grabbing some water and brownies. Event comments: I'm pretty happy overall with my race. Afterall, it's the first time I've ever walked away with hardware from a triathlon. I'm really happy with my swim, I still have no idea how that happened! Last updated: 2009-02-26 12:00 AM

Got up a little early, had a cup of coffee then woke up my girlfriend. Quick shower, scarfed a yogurht and banana and headed out the door. Got to the race with plenty of time. Set up transition, chatted with some friends.
Slapped on the shoes and did a quick jog to check out the beginning of the bike course and stretched.
