Run
Comments: Start was very fast, probably due to my speed training. I was quite soon in HRZ 4, with brief 5 periods, especially during up hills. I tried to stick to groups, and that went quite fine. That required hard work, but it kept me going. Also I drafted a lot when we went against the wind, that surely helped a lot. I can keep on going at a hard level for 1.5 hours, so I am very satisfied! New PR! What would you do differently?: Start out slightly more conservative, so I would have more left to stick to faster groups that I had to let go now. I believe that I can reach 1:30 if I train focused on it, and if the conditions are better. Also: I need a flat course, I am with my weight at a disadvantage up-hill! Post race
Warm down: Immediately changed clothes and drank a lot post training drinks. Then I kept moving, no running, but kept moving. At home I went with both feet in ice water for around 10 minutes, and then I did a nap of around 1 hour. Both felt good! What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind, and the fact that I am in the middle of Base, so no optimal preparation. I believe I can do significantly faster. Event comments: Nice close from home. And good that there was the possibility to wait inside. Definitively next year again! Last updated: 2009-02-27 12:00 AM

Day before in the morning swim test (800m), no further training. This was at the end of an R&R week, total (including race) around 9 hours. No leg problems (what a blessing!), but also no specific peaking or tapering. So my condition was a huge question mark for me!
Weather was harsh, sunshine, cold and windy. So I stayed as long as possible inside (which was well available, very good!), with stretching. Only very briefly jogging, and then kept moving during the last minutes before the start.
