Swim
Comments: Had a good start with no issues other than a little bumping which is to be expected. Drafted off one guy until the first bouy and ended up with a quicker turn or concentrated on trying to catch up to the next guy. Same thing happened but from then on it was swimming around the other waves and avoiding people. Felt like I did a real good job of staying on course. Being overcast and having good back ground markers helped. The shallow lake made for getting through some weeds tough and had one stick to my neck all the way to transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Pleased with this transition cause it was a good ways to the bikes. I would estimate about 200 yards and that is what is measured on Google Earth. What would you do differently?: Make sure to get the dirt off of feet before getting into bike shoes. Also should have got the straps on tighter since I had to readjust them about a mile into the bike. Bike
Comments: Could have pushed it a little harder but was worried about taking to much out of the legs for the run. Slowed down the last third of a mile to try to prep for the run. As it stood I will just keep at it since the run still felt like it always does. Filled up my water bottle with Infinite only half way and ran out about 2 miles from the finish. Could have used a drink before the run. What would you do differently?: Push the bike a little harder but not to much. Transition 2
Comments: This transition cost me a spot since I went to the wrong rack. I was in the third rack but went to the forth one. The top people had times under a minute and I am usually pretty good with transitions but I should have paid more attention to were I was at. I had faster splits in everything but transitions on the fifth place guy but he still whipped me. Had a hell of a time getting my running shoes on. Sweaty feet do not slide into dry shoes very well. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention to my rack area and do some practice getting the shoes on quicker. Run
Comments: Came out of transition with 2 others and took it sort of easy for the first 300 yards. One of the guys pulled over and let me pass, the other behind me and he eventually went by me at about half a mile in. Got on his feet and stuck as best I could with him since he picked up the pace considerably. We both got caught from behind from which I orginally thought was the fifth placed guy but ended up being the fourth one. I tried to go with him but knew I would blow up if I did but it got me away from the other one. So concentrated on keeping a pace that hurt but that I knew would get me to the line with nothing left. What would you do differently?: Current running condition as is, nothing I could do different other that spint like someone was next to me. Post race
Warm down: Short jogging/walking around. Drank water and chocolate milk, ate some cookies, a bagel and an orange slice. What limited your ability to perform faster: T2. Without this slow transition, I would be more than pleased with my performace. First race of the season is always tough since I was unaware of what I could handle pace wise on the bike. Event comments: Really liked this race and for a first time one well organized with lots of great volunteers. Spoke with the race director afterwards, he wanted to know what I thought and told him the above. Last updated: 2009-02-27 12:00 AM

Got to race site early since you had to pick up your chip before 8:30. Arrived at 7:30 for a 10 am start so just went back to the car and sat around to eat up some time. Had some problems with the stomach when I woke and did not feel all that great but as race time approached started feeling bettter. Ate a powerbar 15 minutes before the start.
Short bike to check everything out and a short run. Once I got in the water for my wave did a short out and back from the start.
