Pre-race routine:

The race didn't start till 10 so I got up at a pretty reasonable time for a race day! Had a normal breakfast and DH drove the almost 2 hour trip out there. Had to pick up my packet there, took a good look at the transition and the swim. DH noticed that the marker for the turn at the point was tied to a post in the water and the marker was floating to the inside of the post, so I made it a point to go wide on this turn.
Event warmup:

Swam a bit and did a bunch of stretching, told some other people about the marker...
Swim
  • 12m 3s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was really glad I saw that turn at the point, as I got closer I saw that people were actually walking that turn because it was so shallow. I had unintentionally gone wider than I wanted but got to swim the whole thing because of it. Was a bit harder to navigate with the bouys on the right, I was swimming hard and just couldn't break my left side breathing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I think I did really good, time was 20th in the women, even with putting shoes and socks on.
What would you do differently?:

next year I will work on the shoes on bike start
Bike
  • 40m 20s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.49 mile/hr
Comments:

I was really trying to push this hard, I have been having ITB issues and didn't think I would be able to run the whole 5k. I still think I could have gone harder but I am really happy with my time.
What would you do differently?:

My speedometer wasn't working, again, which might have helped me go harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
What would you do differently?:

gotta remember to put body glide on my feet!
Run
  • 28m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

I had read a lot of complaints about this course so I was ready for most of it, but the woods were really bad, lots and lots of roots on a tight trail with people going both ways. I am really, really happy with my time!! I thought I would not be able to run past a mile because that is where my ITB has been starting to really hurt, so I ran hard out of transition. Somehow whenever it started to hurt I told myself to go harder cause I would be walking soon, but it never started that shooting pain, so I kept going. On the way back into the woods I was so surprised I was still running I really started running hard.
What would you do differently?:

Once this ITB thing is taken care of I am going to be doing a lot of running!!! I lose so much time here! But I'm still happy, this was only a min. off my standalone 5k.
Post race
Warm down:

lots of walking some stretching. I was so happy to see my husband at the end! This was the first race something didn't come up with the kids that kept him away. It's nice to have friends cheer you on, but great to have family!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I actually think telling myself I was going to do bad helped me do better. But that is me, someone says "you can't" and I just HAVE to do it.

Event comments:

I hope they get to have this race next year, the venue is in foreclosure. If they do, I will be there! Might have to pick up the Rumpus in Bumpus too since it is the same course.
