Pre-race routine:

Great big fruit smoothie and a little coffee for breakfast. A little stretching.
Event warmup:

50yd swim.
Swim
  • 07m 55s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt great on the swim. Lost a few seconds since I lost count of my laps. Hard to count to 8 I guess. I was the second guy out of the water and felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Swim was perfect.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

I was wearing trunks and put on full length bike pants instead of just shorts. I was worried about going from the warmth indoors to the cold outdoors and I didn't want to cramp up. It took forever to get on the dang bike all of the time I built up went away on the transistion.
What would you do differently?:

I'd probably swim in my tri shorts down in Vegas. Weather shouldn't be a factor there. I will be practicing the swim/bike before heading south.
Bike
  • 32m 27s
  • 8 miles
  • 14.79 mile/hr
Comments:

I was sweating like a horse in the pool room. Forgot to load up my water bottle which was a BIG mistake. I slowed it down to make sure I had energy left for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I have water.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Glad I practiced this before I did the event. It went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more.
Run
  • 29m 53s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 10m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt a lot better in the last 2/3. Kept heart rate pretty consistent. Good pace too. It wasn't raining and the temp was perfect for how warm I was.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around at the finish area for about 5 minutes. Drank a vitamin water thing. Ate a couple of bagels and some oranges. Drank a lot of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim/bike transistion was pretty bad. Otherwise it's all about the training for me.

Event comments:

For my first tri, this couldn't have been any better. If you live in the Seattle area make this your first event. The distances are perfect for a begginner, you can practice your transitions, the bike allows you to keep an even pace and the run is flat.

If your getting back into the swing after a couple of months of training, this is a great one to knock the rust off.
