Swim
Comments: started in the front of the wave, which was all women over age 35. i was up front w little sara who had someone else's race number. we were going to try to swim together and draft off each other but lost one another pretty fast. the waves were not huge but they were bigger than last year. there was quite a bit of chop/rolling waves the whole way. i kept swimming out to the left/out to sea and zig zagged a lot. i wasn't breathing to my left as much cos of the rollers. it was hard to sight the buoys as a result. oh well. i was still about 30 seconds faster than last year. What would you do differently?: try to sight better. Transition 1
Comments: in my rush to set up T1, i forgot to take my socks out of my bag and put them w my shoes, so i had to rummage thru my bag to find them. of course i brought black socks and everything in my bag was black, so i wasted some time here. grrr. What would you do differently?: remember to put everything out! oops. small mistake, not a biggie. Bike
Comments: The oly distance is now more of a sprint for me. I didn't go all out straight away. took some time to warm up and get my legs feeling ok. i've ridden this course, or this section of the PCH so many times, that i know what's coming up when. i rode the course the weekend before, too, so i knew i'd feel ok. FIRST TIME EVER i was passing people going UPHILL, also downhill and on flats. AND THEY DIDN'T COME BACK TO PASS ME! Seriously, while I know i bitch about being slow and not getting faster, i have retired my granny gear and i am getting better on the hills. while these are not major killer hills, there are still a few of them that slow you down overall. i felt really good climbing up them, passing people and for the most part i'd say 8 out of 10 people did not come back to pass me. older, younger, didn't matter. :) yay!! What would you do differently?: keep doing what i'm doing. one of my best rides yet and fastest speed as well! :) woohoooo! Transition 2
Comments: no issues or problems here. i'm getting faster in T2 which is good. i usually wind up walking out and fixing my ponytail and putting my visor on. gives me a little recovery time before starting the run. What would you do differently?: nothing really. Run
Comments: i did 7/1 intervals. i wouldn't let myself walk any other time, except to maybe get water at an aid station, nothing major. i think i ate a clif block and maybe a gel. maybe i ate the gel on the bike i don't remember. lol. What would you do differently?: need to get faster again. i used to do like a 59 min 10k in the Oly. because of the longer distance training, i've slowed down so i have the endurance. not a big deal, still faster than last year. Post race
Warm down: some fruit and water. Event comments: A little more crowded this year than last year. they added 500 more people to a 1500 person course. only time it was obvious was in transition and at the start and end of the race. I bettered my time over last year by 6 minutes which i'm thrilled about! next year i want to do a sub 3 hour race. I think it is doable. if i didn't forget my darned socks in my bag, i would have been under 3:10. ah well... quite a few of my teammates were out there so it was nice to see so many familiar faces. a few were out there cheering as well. so while jeff was not there to cheer me on as my #1 cheerleader, it was nice to see so many famailiar faces at various points along the course. because my wave was last and i'm a bit slower than my teammates, they were all done and waiting for me near the finish/in the finish chute. that was nice. and louis took a bunch of pix, as always. i look forward to coming back next year and doing much better. i really want to go sub 3 and i think i can do it. and i'll be in the next age group. so maybe i can also do a little better in my overall AG rank. :) Last updated: 2009-03-03 12:00 AM

Jeff was going to come w me in the morning but had a bad allergy attack, so i drove out to malibu in the early morning. got there around 6.
rode my bike the 1.5 miles thru the parking lot to registration. limited time setting up my transition area but did it all in enough time. walked the mile down to the swim start. hung out w little sara, alison, louis and christine. my wave was the last one at 7:45. the race started at 7, but transition closed at 6:30. i had a lot of time to wait around. i hate that!
