Swim
Comments: Worst swim of my life. I was exhausted after 200m. I ended up breakstroking/treading water for several minutes just to get my breath. Then I'd swim for 50m and do it again. My whole body was just exhausted. Something was definitely not right. By the end of the swim, I had nearly decided to give it up. I walked into T1 (and the timing mat). Transition 1
Comments: Took my time getting the wetsuit off. It came off fine. Then I decided to finish the race. Bike
Comments: The bike went OK. Of course, I started far far back in the pack. I passed probably 100 or so people. I didn't feel good about it though because I knew the only reason I was flying past people was because my swim was so bloody awful. I knew I was going reasonably quick when I started passing the 30-somethings on the cool bikes. I was still pretty exhausted the whole time. My legs were toast by the end. Transition 2
Comments: I guess I was in race mode by now. I didn't rush through T2, but I didn't take my time either. Run
Comments: I was really tired, but for some reason I got involved in a footrace here. Early on, someone in my age group passed me and I decided to stick with him. We passed each other a few times, then another guy, also in our age group, who looked fast, passed both of us. I stuck with him and ran right behind him for a while, then with about 1/2 mile to go, I passed him, accelerating hard. He said 'nice run', but he stuck with me. I pushed again at the end, then sensed him behind me and sprinted to the end, beating him by 2 seconds. The other guy was close behind as well. They came over and said 'nice race' at the end, which felt good and showed class. That was the only bright spot in an otherwise UGLY day. Post race
Event comments: Race was well run. My performance on the swim is something I'd like to forget. Last updated: 2009-03-04 12:00 AM

Normal breakfast. Drove to the lake.
Not much. Not enough. I just rode the bike a little and swam about 50 yards.
